Effects of Technology in Our Lives
The improvement in technology significantly impacts our daily lives ranging from how
we interact with other people to how we learn and perform our responsibilities. As technology
becomes part and parcel of our lives, there are several positive and negative effects that it brings.
Despite the challenges that it may bring, technology helps in promoting our creativity and enable
us to live a smarter life by providing quicker and more efficient solutions to our problems.
Technology does not make us stupid; it enhances our creativity and helps us live a
smarter life because of the range of possibilities it brings. The advancement in technology
improves our lives by providing quick solutions to our problems. Technology enables the “digital
natives” to be more creative by doing an efficient and quick scan of the environment to access
multiple information sources simultaneously (Souza, 2007). According to Roberts (2015), people
always engage their intelligence to formulate well-informed questions to generate information of
interest. Consequently, they identify the application or the internet-based resources that help in
achieving the task of retrieving the information. For example, instead of calling a friend or a
parent to ask for a recipe, one can quickly access the knowledge from the internet without
spending a lot of time.
Furthermore, technology facilitates how we store and retrieve information whenever we
need it. Dr. Wimber suggested from their research on ‘Google Effect” that internet only changes
the manner in which information handling and storage occurs. Google Effect, therefore, does not
necessarily help people in remembering what the information is, but rather the location from
which it can get retrieved (Roberts, 2015). This finding reflects the results of Professor
Sparrow’s study on the effects of Google on memory, which indicated that people’s brains
depend on technology for memory in a similar way that they rely on other people’s memory such
