IT 700 Project Report: Test Plans and Results
Introduction
Before implementing an IT system, a significant amount of consideration needs to be giving
to the different factors that pertain to the project. For example, during the implementation of this
project one challenging factor was merging the earlier systems into one centralized system, as
the old system could not withstand changes with consideration for future enhancement. The new
database system implemented is an IT management application to support current business
operations along with future ones, therefore, in creating the new database an important factor that
played an essential role in this preparation is the ease of the system to allow future enhancement
and upgrade. To achieve such success, one can evaluate each stakeholder’s position within the
company, their responsibilities, and even the impact it may cause to their specific departments
(Harrin, 2016). Upon evaluation of the stakeholders, it is important to look at their change
request in further detail and assess the impact the stakeholders request have on the following
factors of the project, such as (Harrin, 2016):
Schedule
Documentation
Work done to date and work still to do
Budget
Quality measures
Scope
Resource availability (Harrin, 2016)
Upon implementing the new database management system, changes within the
organization is inevitable and may affect the morale and attitude of many individuals. Therefore,
before launching the new database management system, meetings will need occur with

employees to let them know of the intended changes, and the impact it will have on their day-to-
day activities, and there will need to be a training session on the steps that each employee needs
to take to prepare for the new database system. An assessment of the implications of the changes
needs to occur to ensure execution of cost-effective changes is in place (Beckers & Stegemann,
2013).
Success and challenges of the project
The project was a success in that the final deliverable as it fulfilled all the requirements of
the user, it was not vulnerable to attacks of compromise in term of security, tests conducted were
successful and their results showed that the system was a success. The completion of project was
possible within the scheduled time, despite the project size, and within the set budget.
Some of the challenges associated with this project arose during the implementation of
the infrastructure and security, as enhancement of the system resulted in a compromise to the
security, which could bring loss to the organization. Other challenges included deciding the
correct infrastructure which would be less costly, and could produce the greatest benefits, as
there are limitations to the budget, and using resources effectively is critical, thus creating a need
to have good team composition, and communication within teams (Clark, 2014). Testing the
system also posed as another challenge, as the need to ensure the greatest test coverage was
essential, which caused the IT team to validate different aspects of the database including data
validation, schema verification, security checks, data certification, and cross checking with UI
test results ("6 Ways Database Automation Solves Manual Database Testing Challenges," 2015).
Modification strategy/plan
The modification strategy involved putting the documentation on the design plan into
practice, including working with a prototype that will dictate the success or failure of the project.

Assessing the prototype brought forth the need to modify it, as this will allow a more critical
focus on the challenges posed at prototyping phase, which let the IT team to concentrate on
accountability of any vulnerabilities, challenges, and loopholes. The initial system involved
individual database for individual firms and the result was a successful well-centralized database
for the merged company’s database (Scheid, 2011).
The implementation faced various challenges since the structure of the previous systems
did not allow future changes or improvements, therefore, there was an urgency to modify the
system in such a way that will permit effectively implementing future merges, and it allow the
database system to improve as per the requirements of this project. The modification strategy
facilitates the development of the database model, its simulation, its prototype, as well as proof
of concept, all of which acted as an alternative during the full implementation of the project, and
its outcome provided a successful database at the project testing phase, which is critical to the
implementation of the new database system (Bunner, 2017).
The potential issue
One potential issue that arose during project implementation is security challenge, this
was due to the extended scope of the system and the scarce nature of resources, requiring the IT
team to include more participants in the system. Since attacks to the security system is
inevitable, in the future, there will need to be regular maintenance of the systems to prevent
security breaches from damaging the organization, its data, and the people they serve. These
maintenance practices will occur on a 6-month basis to certify that no threat goes unmonitored.
Regular preventative maintenance consists of tasks, such as system monitoring that will alert IT
when there is a problem, and this will allow IT to deal with the issue immediately, rather than

avoid having to deal with corrupted database later when it is too late to fix the problem
("Database Repair and Maintenance," 2008-2017).
Conclusion
An important factor in an IT system is the ease at which the system allows future
enhancement and upgrades, to perform these tasks, the system needs to be dynamic and keep
embracing changes faced in the IT environments. However, the change may bring positive or
negative implication, thus, causing the IT group to perform Keen analysis, as this will maintain
the implemented system, and allow for future improvement without compromising the system in
terms of security, which will bring adverse impacts to an organization (Bisk, n.d.).
