JACK OF ALL TRADES 2
Jack of All Trades
Having knowledge, whether intense or shallow, about anything is always treasured. Some
people know too much about single disciplines while others know a little bit of everything.
Knowing a little about many subjects has its benefits compared to being esoterically versed in
single subjects on coping with day to day challenges. I believe that having little knowledge and
understanding of many disciplines better and more useful than specializing in one subject only.
Life is all about diversity. For instance, a mother will have play doctor, nutritionist,
nurse, cleaner, cook, companion, disciplinarian, and many other more personalities for her baby
grow and develop well. In other words, parenting will require a mother who versed in a little bit
of everything to make things work out well. A mother who is tender, loving and philanthropic all
times will propagate an environment in which the child will grow perceiving the world as
without disappointments and hardships. In this case, the mother will be deemed to have failed
because good parenting needs tough love at times.
Moreover, specialization in one area comes with unparalleled monotony. Doing one task
over and over again is bound to reduce people into machines. Knowledge disciplines on the other
make possible to engage in a variety of activities. Shifting from one activity to the next is
invigorating and rejuvenating thereby killing boredom.
Despite the need for specialization, the world needs an individual who is all well round.
Surviving in the harsh and rapidly dynamic world and leading an invigorating life with minimal
monotony certainly requires a little knowledge on many subjects. Therefore, every last one of us
should take upon ourselves to know a little bit of everything.
