Kinesiology
Kinesiology can be defined as the scientific study of body movement for both
humans and non-human beings. The major areas or factors addressed by kinesiology is the
biomechanical, physiological and psychological principles of effective movement
mechanisms. All these are used to describe various movement patterns and abilities observed
in people and non-human components. The interview sessions in this paper focus on
questions that have been used to shed more light on different movements that have been
observed in specific people over, and they gave their feedback on the same with an interest of
becoming kinesiology professionals.
Design of the Interview Guides
Interview questions are fundamental in determining the success of an interview. I
kept this in mind when choosing the design to use for my interview guides so that I could get
the best answers from my interviewees. The first design I used is that I knew what I wanted
to know and learn from the interview clients. The primary point was on Kinesiology, so I had
to make sure that my questions revolved around getting information from my clients
concerning the topic. Another style I used is that I reframed the statement of the problem
instead of just paraphrasing the problem that I needed to find solutions. Through reframing, I
was able to identify a new set of questions that I had not included in my initial draft.
I then build a list of questions by considering several factors. First, is separate
sensitive information that a client may feel that it is not appropriate to answer or share with
me, I then considered who my client is and the type of information I wanted to get from
him/her. As I did this, I considered the sensitivity of the client and the will to cooperate with
me. I also decided to use open-ended questions when interviewing to give a chance to the
client to include more information to the answers they would give instead of providing direct
answers with little information. When designing the questions, I also avoided drafting leading
questions to avoid getting one way or direct answers from the clients to be interviewed.
Through this process, I would be able to get the truth and valid information from the answers
that the interview clients would give.

Conducting the Interviews
Jorge Gonzalez Interview
George was one of my interviews, and I conducted the interview session in Lab 2B
on Thursday, May 17th, 2018 at 5 pm. I choose this time for the interview because it would be
easier to access him and he would be done with the day’s activities, so he was free at the
time. During this time, the air was, and the sun was almost setting, so the temperature was
just right. The interview lasted for 30 minutes, and I used an iPhone to record the whole
session, and there was a lab member present during the interview. He was a well-built guy
and very polite, so I knew that the session would be a wonderful one. His well-built posture
was a sign that he engaged in sports, so I included such questions in the interview.
His politeness was very welcoming, and he maintained that all through the session
which made me feel comfortable talking to him and asking him the interview questions I had
prepared. What I found challenging during the session is some of the explanations I had to
give for questions that were too long, and George seemed to have a hard time understanding
them, but he did his best to give the best and truthful answers concerning those questions. I
would need to use questions that can be easily understood to avoid time wastage when
explaining them to a client. One memorable incident is when George had to explain why he
was into sports, and he had to explain how his grandma used to joke about her younger years
and her engagement in sports which motivated him. The story was so hilarious that we both
laughed for a full minute and we had to catch our breath.
Generation and Presentation of Data
I transcribed the information I got from the interview on a word document to analyze
the data I had collected. I used specific ideas, concepts, and phrases for coding to have a
better understanding of the interview data I had. Some of the codings I used in this interview
session was communication, lacking diversity, change, and new experiences or challenges. I
came up with these codes through the interview responses for instance when the client talked
about having problems with forming connections with teachers; I used the code
communication to represent this information.
The interview was a successful one, and apart from the few difficulties I had, I
enjoyed the whole session with my client. I learned that one should never judge a person
from their appearance since being well-built, I thought that the client would be rude or
intimidating but he was very polite, and I was comfortable with the interview session. I used
the codes that I had to develop themes for the interview data like living through a lack of
KINESIOLOGY 4
diversity which included several codes that explained the fact that a person does not choose
where they are born, but experiences in life make people better than how they are born.
Melissa Sanchez Interview
Melissa was a beautiful and well-endowed lady with a background in Kinesiology,
so I was very eager to interview with her, and I knew it would be fun for both of us. She was
kind and had a beautiful smile that welcomed me to be friendly with her. I interviewed 11
AM on April 9th, 2019 and lasted for approximately 27 minutes at the East Bay’s library. I
felt so comfortable talking to her that it was more of a talk than a serious no joke session.
Through our ease of communication, I was able to get as much information as I needed from
the beautiful Melissa.
The only tricky bit with the interview session was the fact that the location where the
interview was set had many distractions from other people. Many people did not know that
we had an interview and though we were talking, so they passed by making much noise
which distracted us. I would improve the interview by making sure the venue is located in a
calm and silent place where there would not be any interruptions from people. I remember an
incident when she had to excuse some people who were making a lot of noise next to us, and
she used a harsh tone which scared them off, and this was quite memorable.
Generation and Presentation of Data
I checked for short words or phrases in the interview to use as code for the data
presented. Some of the codes I used included sports minded, competitive, inspirations,
positive attitude, caused a little frustration, what the exercises do and finding interest in
physical therapy. I also used enjoyable experience with physical therapists, healing an injury
is a long process, for faster healing you have to be consistent in the treatment, lack of
consistency caused the pain to linger longer and use the experience as a reference. Lastly,
good progress in a short time means a patient is consistent, prefers outpatient setting, and
works with college level and up athletes. I analyzed the transcript and checked for the words
and phrases that held more meaning than others to make the code. I then grouped the codes to
come up with the themes like pain caused by injury, detail of injury and exercises, and long
recovery period.
My client shared information clearly and truthfully with me, so I had no problem
putting the codes and themes together. I was able to understand the importance of exercise for
a tasty and healthy life that is easy to maintain as long as one has focus and determination.
The interview session was a success, and the questions that I asked were very crucial in
making sure that I got the necessary answers needed for the interview. I was able to get the
first-hand experience from a source on the effects that an injury can have on an individual
and I would like to learn how such people can be helped to relieve the pain.
