A Soliloquy from King Duncan, Macbeth
The invasion of King Sweno is putting my Kingdom into war. At the same time my kinsmen,
Thane of Cawdor and Macdonald are rebellious and joining the enemy. What have I ever done
wrong to make my Kinsmen betray me and join the enemy? Who would ever betray me? A King
who is a respected noble figure and was endorsed by King James I, for a divine ruling. How is it
possible to defeat an enemy who has managed to convince my Kinsmen to turn against their
kingdom? I will take revenge upon them in the battlefield, and with the surrender of King Sweno
they will be captured and killed. My two best fighter will have to determine the war and ensure
victory for my kingdom. The brave Macbeth will be honored for leading the Scotland army to
the battlefield and bringing success. The death of Macdonald in the battlefield will serve as a
lesson to other Kinsmen. The Thane of Cawdor will also be executed, and the title will be passed
to Macbeth. King Sweno’s Norwegians will be made to beg for a truce for invading my
kingdom.
Though Macbeth is a potential successor from his bravery actions, I will announce my heir for
the throne. One day my son Malcolm will be my successor and take over as King. I hope he will
be cautious enough by not judging a book by its cover as I was unable to predict the treachery of
the Cawdor. As the King, and a developed figurehead of order I will honor and pay a visit to
Inverness to show gratitude to Macbeth for his actions of protecting the kingdom.
