Question 1
The part that I did exceptional well is effective behavior during the discussion. For
example, I partook in asking questions throughout the discussion as shown in the assessing guide
for influence in the leadership group discussion. Apart from asking questions, I showed great
skills of articulating ideas clearly where I had the highest rating. I was also great at showing
gestures and facial expressions during the discussion. On top of effective behavior, I also did
well in influencing the group members during the discussion. One of the exceptional fields in
this category was presenting multiple arguments and evidence which supported what we were
discussing. I did poorly in trying to persuade the group to support the organization that I
preferred as shown by zero rating in the assessor guide rating.
In the persuasive presentation guide, I performed averagely but the written
communication part stood out among the rest. This part concentrated on the PowerPoint slides
that I had developed. I did exceptionally well in choosing the right words which had the correct
tone for the information being delivered. Conversely, the slide had a clear structure with
headings which enabled the group members to understand easily what I was presenting. The
choice of words and clear headings, coupled with the use of gestures enabled me to perform
Surname2
highly on delivering basic meaning of contents that enabled the students to understand the
message easily.
In the Management Counseling assessor rating guide, I did well in effective feedback and
problem solving. This was most evident in my verbal and non-verbal communication in the
meeting with Pat. I scored in all the components highly except for only demonstrating fair-
mindedness by asking for Pat’s views. I did well at handling problems the way it is rather than
oversimplifying it. Additionally, I provided clear and direct feedback to the questions both my
negative and positive feedbacks. I also managed to propose goals, new ideas, and pointing out
the benefits of cooperation.
Question 2
In the students Influence in the Leaderless group Discussion assessment form, I learned
that I had excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. For example, I engaged the least
in repeating myself unnecessarily and interrupting other group members. I also realized that I
rarely lectured the group members but engaged in the dialogue properly. However, I also realized
that I was a little shy during the discussion. However, this was only for a small period of time
before I got to be free with the group members.
In the persuasive presentation assessment, I realized that I was poor in oral
communication especially in influencing other people. This can be confirmed by having an
average rating in being tailored by the students’ perspective in PowerPoint slide. Additionally, I
saw that I had a poor compelling conclusion for my work. This can be attributed by my shyness
and poor persuasive skills. Lastly, in the Management Counseling assessment, I realized that I
was exceptional in communicating through email. I used words that could clearly convey the
Surname3
meaning of my message. I also avoided words that could see that I was shouting such as using
capital words in the email. My messages were organized, focused and readable.
Question 3
In the Management Counseling assessment component, I would change the way I
introduce myself to the group during the meeting. I was poor and this led to my shyness at first
as we were discussing. Additionally, I would create a proper statement of purpose which my
group could identify easily or understand. In the persuasive presentation assessment component,
what I would like to do over is stop being shy and approach all the group members with
confidence. Additionally, I would stop being influenced by the members during my PowerPoint
presentation in the students Influence in the Leaderless group Discussion component. That is the
part where I would like to do over again. In this component, I would also like to change my
posture. I had a posture which did not favor my argument delivery. I was sometimes slumping on
my chair as well as sitting back in the chair. I would like to redo this part by sitting upright and
showing composure as the discussion progressed.
Question 4
While I was making a point, I remember Chris trying to object it. This did not sit well
with me and I had to persuade Chris to understand that what I was trying to suggest was a good
point. I told him to come up with alternatives. Chris failed to come up with proper alternatives
and he saw that my point was relevant. What made it successful is that I gave Chris the option to
come up with what he felt was right. I not only showed him the strengths of my point but also
discussed with him the strength and weakness of his points. What I would differently is also
giving him the weakness of my point. This is the part where I failed to mention. He also did not
Surname4
try to gauge my point. As much as I consider it a successful persuasive presentation, I also feel
that not stating the weakness of my point favored me and not him during the discussion.
Part 2
Question 1
In verbal and non-verbal skills, my strength lies with patience where I rarely interrupt
people. For example, while I was at home one time, my sister kept shouting to me about her lost
phone thinking that I had hid it. The phone was on top of her wardrobe all the time. When she
was done shouting, I told her where it was. For students’ behavior, I have a big weakness when it
comes to keeping time. I was once late for my friend’s birthday party although he had stated to
me more than five times. I have always had a weakness with keeping time. My oral
communication skill is one of my strength in group discussion. I have also been part of a
demonstration and showed great oral skills to the participants. I am also good at constructing
proper email which can deliver a message in the best way possible. My emails are always brief
and clear. I have helped many people especially at home on how to construct a good email.
Question 2
One of the skill that I need to develop most is time keeping. From the assessment
component, I had a zero rating in this skill. This is one of the most important aspects for a
student. It enables a person to develop a plan and also shapes what kind a person you will be.
Time keeping is not only limited to school but it is also essential in later life. This is the skill that
I will have to develop soon so that it can help me be a better student and also a better person in
the society. Apart from that, I also need to develop the skill of starting and conversation and
ending it gracefully. I have realized that my way of starting a conversation is in a crude manner.
Surname5
This is a skill that is essential for the common communication between two individuals. I will
have to start developing it earlier so that my discussions will be better and people can appreciate
my message during meetings.
Question 3
One of the opportunities that can enable me to develop my timekeeping skills is a
convention that will be happening in town next week. This convention is about the scourge of
obesity in America. The convention will be happeni8ng every day for five days. It will start at 6
in the evening to 9 at night. The convention will determine if my timekeeping skills have
improved or if it still needs improvement. I will ensure that I am never late for any convention.
Apart from the convention, any meeting that I will be attending I will ensure that I keep time to
improve this skill.
The convention will also help me develop the skill of starting and ending a conversation
gracefully. I saw during the discussion that I was lacking in this area. I will try to engage in the
discussion about obesity so that I can understand how I can start or end a conversation
gracefully. By looking at other individual, this will help e copy essential skills in this area.
