1. State why you think the defendants were NOT convicted of the criminal charges,
and if you agree or disagree with that finding by the jury
There are several reasons that led the defendants not to be convicted of attacking the
storeowners. Basically, the war had begun earlier when the store owner tried to chase out
the bride and her relatives. It was a good act of how the store owner ordered his son to
call the police. The best choice would have if he calmly advised the relatives to leave the
store as the store rules do not allow what they were doing. Actually, the store owner did
not elaborate the rules to them; he did not say the reason as to why he needed them out.
This appears to a continuation of the disagreements that erupted from the previous day
disagreements on the payment of the dress. In my knowledge, the reason why they were
not convicted is that the son and the father tried to force them out of the store with violent
orders. As from the clip, one can see that the son came from the back store and
commenced pushing them away. In this case, the defendants claimed they were defending
themselves. However, I do not agree with the court verdict since the court did not first
came to know why the men came into the store in the first place, and they were not
buyers. Meaning their motive was fighting.
2. Assume the bridal store owner brought a civil suit against the defendants. Indicate
what claims he could make against the defendants and why
Surname 2
If the store owner brought a civil suit against the three men, he would have the following
claims, the injuries he sustained from the fight, the destruction of property, and unlawful
break-in. The above claims would have led to compensation since; in real sense, the
injuries were visible since the owner had to go the hospital for treatment. In addition, the
property destroyed in the struggle was seen from the camera and as well visible. If he
filed a civil lawsuit, the defendants would be found guilty, and compensation for the
damages would be the charge.
