Federal state and local regulatory agencies are responsible for coming up with rules and
regulations that govern the way the health care industry operates and also acts in an oversight
capacity. The federal government provides regulations like the Medicare, Veterans health
benefits, and the federal Affordable Care Act. Areas like the insurance sector are mainly
covered through the federal legislative platform. The federal government comes up with policies
that incorporate health care reforms, deficit-reduction strategies and CMS regulatory initiatives
(Larrat, M. Marcoux & Vogenberg, 2012). State laws are obliged to cover health care precepts
that include the rights of the patient in a health related issue.
An example of the areas covered by state laws entails the regulation of Durable Power of
Attorney, Euthanasia Laws, Medical Records Laws, Abortion Laws and Living Wills Laws, as
applicable within the particular state (Larrat, M. Marcoux & Vogenberg, 2012). Local
government authorities are also obliged to come up with rules and regulations that have an
impact on the operational strategy of the healthcare sector within a given locality (Larrat, M.
Marcoux & Vogenberg, 2012). The fact that there is need to afford a safe environment for a
resident within a local area for people to live in a healthy environment is an essential task that
requires the collaboration of the local health department and the local authority. The local health
department forms part of the local and state government who often report to a city council,
mayor, county health board and county commission. The laws enforced and regulations for
keeping people safe is the mandate of the local authority They indulge in activities like restaurant
inspections, water and sewer treatment and smoke-free air laws.
Accreditation is a review process of evaluating health care organizations in a bid to
demonstrate its ability to meet the requirements and the standards of accreditation as established
by a certification organization (N. Warburton, 2017). The role of the accreditation and regulatory

agencies is to ensure that unsafe health practices are curbed through laying down the minimum
required standards to be met by a health providing facility or agency or provider for it to be
allowed to continue its operations (N. Warburton, 2017).
There are elaborate impacts in which the healthcare policies has undergone owing to the
various changes made and initiated as a result of the legal and regulatory requirements.
There has been an elaborate and significant impact in which legal and regulatory requirement has
on the development of organizational health care policies. Legal and regulatory mandates impact
on ways that organization carries out the health provision tasks towards patients, and it entails
the privacy and confidentiality issues. Also in electronic information efficient on the health
sector together with the supervisory task of ensuring quality health care standards are met.
Particularly by reviewing specific cases like drug treatment and special cases.
The trending issues in the health care industry include entail policies that affect privacy
of patients. Also, the aspect of health insurance has been impacted heavily through legislations
like the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) ("Important Laws and
Regulations in Health Informatics", 2017). Also, the Affordable Care Act which has been
espoused on lowering the cost of healthcare and availing coverage accessibility.
Also, there are the federal and state regulations that have affected the health informatics
field. Legislations like FDASIA were passed to monitor the collection and maintenance of the
records of the patient with the aim of transforming the development and functional aspect of the
patient-care system to be computer based ("Important Laws and Regulations in Health
Informatics", 2017). Rules like MACRA are targeting the betterment of how physicians are
reimbursed on a quality-based model, efficient, valuable, and effective medical care
provision ("Important Laws and Regulations in Health Informatics", 2017).
