LEADERSHIP 4
World War 1, women became united for a common purpose which was gaining the authority to
control their body sizes and the right to vote. Sanger managed to establish herself as a great
leader who encouraged women to voice out their opinions and exercise their rights (Ang & Van
Dyne, 2015). Her immovable beliefs, compassion and high ambition which are all qualities of a
great leader were instrumental in such a course. Through the demonstration of her sheer will to
do anything to realize her goals, Margaret Sanger justified being one among America’s most
influential and earliest female leaders.
Her contributions to nursing practice
As argue by (Kung & Rudner, 2015) Despite the fact that many people regard Sanger as a
life savior, others consider her as a devil. It is undoubtedly clear that the legacy of Margaret
Sanger has made women across the world have the authority to determine their fertility. She was
a nurse in the public health sector within the ghettos of New York City during the early ages of
the 20th century. By establishing the America’s Planned Parenthood Federation and her using
her leadership, Sanger managed to initiate the movement towards birth-control which is an
essential aspect of the nursing practice.
While nursing in the poverty-stricken ghettos, sanger turned her interest to the
reproductive health issue. From time to time, she observed women left to destitute and sick by
recurring pregnancies. She sympathized at how families were trapped in the vicious cycle of
poverty since their wages were way below the level which could support the number of children
that kept on increasing each year. By the time these children and women came to seek assistance
from her, it was too late for her to solve their problems. She then began the quest for a lasting
solution that could quell the root problem. It is then that she saw it fit to teach families about
birth control and sexuality information (Wells-Wilbon, 2015).
