1. From the article entitled: The Feminist Critique – Four Questions for Theorizing

across Disciplines by Cecilia Konchar Farr (p. 591): Where are the women?

Where is the power? Where am I standing?

From the book, it is evident the women are a marginalized part of society. In this case, it

is notable that women sexually exploited. Females are either raped or forced to engage in sexual

relationships which are often against their will and want. According to the publication, it is

notable to point out that most of the women sexually exploited are usually from the urban areas

of Thailand as well as the rural areas (Farr, 2014). The narration succinctly shows that the

women are in deplorable conditions where they are forced to work as commercial sex workers.

The plight of women is their role of serving as sources of entertainment for the male-dominated

society.

The writer's viewpoint is that Thai society is one of the most extreme communities. It is a

known position that the women are inferior to the male members regardless of the efforts that the

former (Farr, 2014). Power, on the other hand, is vested in foreign investors who have taken

center stage of the commercial activities in the region. The traditional farm economies have been

left aside, given that they were owned by the inhabitants who have been left weak with no

resources to boost and elevate their situations.

A review of the situation presented by the writer entirely leaves the reader in a complex

social and economic system that would be understood by someone at the scene and place where

the events occur. The most plausible way in which the plight of these women can be understood

is by walking through their shoes. That way, it is possible to the extent that it is possible to

estimate their fate and ideas that can be inculcated to improve their situations (Mukhererjee,

Farmer, Farmer, 2010). About the structure of the society, it is manifest that the women are

neither sad nor feel any humiliation to the injustices subjected to them. The fact that the

structural positioning of the society has forced them to see and regard such situations as rather

ordinary and part of the generic community.

When it comes to the stance that discusses where I am standing, it is desirable to point

out the recent studies on the plight of older women in the United States. The concerns of these

women need to be addressed as soon as possible. I believe that the interests of these women will

even worsen if nothing is done. It is a concern that these women are not ready to fight for their

rights. Women have a right seeing that they are part of the inherent fundamental rights and

freedoms as enlisted in the UN Charter (Kristof, WuDunn, Chermayeff, Beardsley, Gordon,

Dupre, Ferrari, 2012). The women have emerged to be part of the problems that characterize

them as they have accepted to serve as servants and subjects of their male counterparts.

Overall, I support that the recognition of the rights of women is recognized. Society

must change and adjust to meet the desires and needs of all. From Cecilia Konchar Farr's

publication, it is integral to understand that the women in the context under deliberation get

oppressed. This is to the extent that has rights which are covered and protected by the mere fact

that they are human beings (Roberto, 2016). It is a sad realization that society has adjusted such

that the rights of the women are no longer considered as integral.

2. From the article titled Five Faces of Oppression, by Iris Marion Young, describe

what forms of oppression apply to your issue and why (p. 539).

The women meet the concerns through the social, economic, and political structures that

teach the American communities. In the process, the aged fall prey to depression, stress, and ill-

health as they lack the support that they would have received. Besides, the previous deliberation

suggests that gender roles have left women as a struggling faction in the land, especially during

old age.

From the traditional and conventionally, it is the mandate of women to act as caregivers

in homes. This forces most of them to work from home or not work at all while their male

counterparts procure formal jobs. In such a situation, the aftermath is rather unbearable on the

part of the women. They are unable to cater to the basic needs at an old age since they have few

benefits or premiums. From the above highlight, it is indeed unequivocal to point out that the

abuse of the older women in the United States is a product of structural violence as supported by

the role of the social environment on the matter.

How American society is placed has a direct effect on the plight of the older women in

the United States. As it stands, the economic factor has a direct influence on the plight of the

older women in the United States (Farr, 2014). The economic faction keeps adjusting depending

on factors such as recession or rise in the cost of living. In the process, the value of one's

premiums or savings could change at the peril of the aged. In the long run, this results in a

situation where older women are unable to access decent shelter, clothing, and health care. It is

for this particular reason that the economic environment has a direct hand in the challenges that

engulf the elderly persons.

Suffice it to say, several themes are discussed in the previous modules are linked to the

topic of the abuse of older women in the United States. Also, the theme of healthcare supports

the topic selected for discussion. According to the readings, it is indicative that healthcare is a

primary need for people regardless of their geographical positions. It is for this reason that the

health concerns of the elderly members of American society is integral.
