Task Instructions
You are required to answer each topic, providing clear and concise answers. Where
required, supply examples showing use of the said topics in real world problems. You should
also provide answers to the examples you write below. The suggested word count for this
section is 500 words.

To determine which fraction is larger we will use the LCM method that is we will find the LCM of
the denominator and express the two fractions in terms of the equivalent new denominator, which
is the LCM.
The LCM of 4 and 9 is 36.

Section #3- Reflection [15%]
Write a short reflection (approximately 100-150 words) about your personal learning experience of the
topics covered in this section. You may write about your learning style, lessons learnt, working in
groups, and about your skills you have developed studying this module
You can use the Skills Audit above to facilitate your answer.
I have learned a lot of fundamental skills during this module. I have learned how to use
the Least Common Multiple (LCM) to determine which fraction is greater. This concept
was new but fascinating to me. I also learn how to calculate percentage increase and
decrease. This information is vital for me since it will help me in my day to day operation
be it during my classwork or my shopping. Also, I enjoyed the group work sessions since it
gave me ample time to practice on the concept taught in class. Mainly, I was happy that
through our group work session I got to understand how to solve inverse proportion
questions. Finally, I got to learn about basic descriptive statistics, which were a little bit
challenging to me.
Section #4 [45 %]
4.1 Fill the data in the below table, follow these set of instructions:
a. Input total count of student numbers at random from the following range [200-650]
b. Calculate 2018 predicted numbers using following method: 12% increase from the mean
student numbers for all three previous years.
c. Calculate the Range for the number of enrolled students for all 4 years.
d. Draw an appropriate graph and comment on the data, highlighting any significant changes.
e. The number of students enrolled in the ‘Under 25’ category has increased by 15% between
2014 and 2015. Calculate how many students were in the ‘Under 25’ category in 2014.
f. Calculate the percentage change for the ‘Over 35’ category between 2016 and 2017.
g. There were 20% more females than males in 2016 under ’25-35’ category. How many male
students were enrolled in the same year and category?
h. What is the ratio of total students in ‘Under 25’ category to the total population for 2017?

Most of the students enrolling to this school are 25 years and below. This is because this is the
age of most students who have graduated from high school. It is assumed that once a student
graduates from high school, they join the school immediately. There are very few students who
are over 35 years. The number of students has been increasing over the past three years, which is
from 2015 to 2017. In 2018, the number of students enrolled in the under 25 and over 35
categories are expected to decline slightly. The number of students between 25-35 categories is
expected to increase slightly.

4.2 You are required to provide a brief, between 100-200 words, summary of the information from
these two graphs below. Comment on changes in student population between years 2004-2014. You
may separate UG/PG students, comment on any changes and visible trends.
Undergraduate
Most of the undergraduate students are 20 years and below while the least number of students
are those above 40 years. The number of students enrolled in the school has been increasing
from 2004 until 2011 when the number declined slightly. The number of students enrolled
decline between 2011 and 2012 and then started increasing again. This decline in the number of
enrolment affected all the categories except the 21-24 years category. In this category, the
number of students enrolled has been continuously increasing.
Postgraduate
Most of the postgraduate students are between ages 21- 24 years. These students are assumed
to be fresh graduates that are those students who have graduated from their undergraduate
courses. Generally, the number of students enrolled has been increasing. In the 21-24 years
category, the number of students has been increasing from 2004 to 2011 when the number
reduce for two years then begun to rise again. In the 25-29 year category, the number has been
continuously rising until in 2010when it declined for a year then started to rise again. In the 30-
39 category, the number of students enrolled has been falling until 2008 when it began
increasing. It declines again between 2010 and 2012 but later increased again. The number of
students in the over 40 categories has been increasing and only declined between 2010 to 2013
then remained constant.
4.3 You decided to record number of times the bus was late during your morning commute. The
table below shows the time (t) the bus you usually take, was late over the 20-day period. You are
required to fill in the frequency and the calculate following:
