Minimum Viable Product on Carrier Delivery Start-up Program
Minimum viable products (MVP) development is a technique that consists of minimum
features set purpose to meet and satisfy the early customers in the business and provide feedback
which is used for future product or services development (Olsen, 2015). In this report, I focus on
discussing the applicability, implementation, rationale, evidence, and benefits of using the
Minimum viable product on our project which is “Carrier Delivery Start-up”
Applicability
The minimum viable product is a step and technique within the organization routine
referred to as Build, Measure and Learn. In the first step, the MVP is built, then the outcomes or
reactions are measured and then the other step which is learnings are accounted for before the
process is repeated which entail refining the minimum viable product each time (Hokkanen,
Kuusinen and Väänänen 2016, p.66). The technique contains only a basic set of features which
are enough to capture the early customers or adopters' attention and help in making the solution
unique. The start-up project purpose to provide delivery services that link customers who may be
willing to send their parcel to their recipient in a convenience manner; less time and money.
When the client subscribe to our system, they are guaranteed that the product will be delivered
on time. However, since the project system is new to us, applying the MVP concept will be
paramount for to our organization. The MVP will ensure that our firm doesn’t incur more losses
in case some of the services fail. It will first start by providing only the main and functioning
features where after successful validation the project will be taken to a huge scale.
Minimum viable product technique has been used by various organizations such as
Dropbox and Groupon while developing their application (Burry and Burry, 2018). It enabled

them to receive the customer’s feedbacks, a concept that facilitated in development of the
systems. By using the MVP, the companies were able to identify various areas that were
supposed to be developed and thus facilitating in achieving the organization goals and objectives.
The challenge with MVP techniques is that since it contain only minimum features, some
clients may feel that the product doesn’t meet all their needs and fail to understand that the
program is in testing step. As noted by the organizations that has used the MVP concept such
Groupon and Dropbox, it sometimes become a challenge to convince client in regard to the
initial steps of the project.
Implementation of MVP
The implementation strategy of the MVP is very crucial to the overall success of the
Carrier Delivery Start-up Program. In this step, the Carrier Delivery Start-up project will
incorporate effective techniques as well as professionals/experts that can facilitate for the success
of the program. As Osterwalder, Pigneur, Bernarda and Smith (2014) connote, when setting up
the program, it is important for the program to involve individuals or professionals that have
adverse experience regarding the program and those that have been involved in the
implementation of the similar programs.
When implementing the Carrier Delivery Start-up program, it is necessary to allow
flexibility. Setting up of the program should not conform to strict guidelines. The intention of the
process is to select the major features of the MVP for the Carrier Delivery Start-up program that
can facilitate or promote collaboration and purpose to offer solutions while adapting the features
that does not produce expected results. The used features are used to obtain ideas, knowledge
and other information that can be helpful in developing the product.

Rationale
When the business is entering or introducing products in the market, there is usually
uncertainty regarding the adoption of the products by the users (Euchner, 2013). Even though the
program may have identified the gap in the market, coming up with a product that will meet the
customers' needs it is not easy, for the needs may vary. Project may led to loss of resources when
full features of products are introduced and doesn’t meet customer’s needs. MVP technique will
enable our Carrier Delivery Start-up program to introduce minimum features to the customers
which form the basis for product development. The product development is based on comments
and feedback received. However, the MVP may not be recommended when the business is
certain that the product its offer has already market and there is no risk regarding the failure of
the products in the market. In this regard, the business can release full-fledged of the product.
Evidence
Various firms such as Dropbox and Groupon started by incorporating the MVP concept
(Burry and Burry 2018). Before Dropbox built the indispensable file-sharing service, it knew that
there were other tons of cloud storage applications. Thus, it was important for it to develop
different and more effective features that would attract customers and this wasn't easy. However,
to attract customers, Dropbox CEO Drew Houston developed and posted a three-minute video on
the website showing users how to access and use the application on his desktop. The video
circulated and was viewed by the right audience who provided helpful feedback and comments
and was helpful in pointing out the potential problems and this enable it to improve the
applications.

In the case of Groupon, before the Groupon product was innovated, there was a program
known as The Point (Burry and Burry 2018). Its aim and purpose were to bring people together
in order to solve the underlying problems. However, according to Andrew Mason in an interview
on Mixergy, he mentioned that he had spent at least eleven months developing The Point in order
to make it align with his vision in regard to what he wanted the platform to be. However, The
Point failed and this made him learn a valuable lesson. Later, Groupon was innovated in a month
and it entailed involving customers in the development of the program. Joe Harrow was a
customer support head and he could spend some hours in every afternoon emailing all the
customers that had bought the vouchers and received feedback regarding the product. This
enabled them to develop products that satisfy the customers' needs.
Benefits
MVP has various benefits to our Carrier Delivery Start-up program and will enable us
achieve our set goals and objectives as it is also noted by Euchner (2013). These benefits are
outlined below.
It will enable release of the product into the market in the shortest time.
It will test the demand for the product before releasing the full-fledged product.
It will reduce implementation costs.
Gather and enhance the project user base
Avoid large capital losses and failure of the business
Help in gaining valuable insight in regard to the products and the business. I.e. what
works and what doesn't work.
