Abstract
Many people believe that money is an indispensable motivator; however, there are plenty of
natural endowments that make humanity thrive. Money can buy numerous things but the fact
that the best things in life are for free cannot be overlooked. Material possessions can bring
short-lived happiness, but the long-term feeling of joy comes from deep within the soul
where comfort supersedes lack. Besides, extraordinary abilities are inherent and plain to the
extent that corruption or cash cannot purchase them. Wisdom is the true determinant of life,
which plays a more significant role in humans than money. Moreover, relationships that are
founded on material gains never last compared to those founded on intimacy, commitment,
and passion from a genuine heart without any strings attached. Regardless of the billions
injected into the healthcare system, people still die of curable diseases. It is plain to tell that
money, though somewhat important, does not make the world go round.

Money makes the World Go Round
Introduction
For centuries, humans of all ages have unanimously esteemed money as the prime
motivator and the most valuable possession, which cannot be bought or sold. At a twinkling
of an eye, wealth can shield people or destroy whatsoever stands in the way of its master
(Lippitt 2009, pp135). Undoubtedly, money can do almost everything, but the most important
things in life are far beyond its reach. The phrase ‘money makes the world go round’ came to
light through great works of literature such as ‘Cabaret’ by Joe Masteroff, and Charles
Dickens’ ‘Dombey and Son.’ According to Nesse (2001, pp72) the quotation means that
money is an inevitable good that drives the world. However, Ritter (2009, pp759) asserts that
the true functionality of a human being is determined by the existence of money. Despite the
fact that it is an inevitable good in this torn planet, the essentials of life, such as happiness,
wisdom, love, health, and talent, do not have price tags; thus there is a limit to it as well.
Happiness
The earth and everything in it are like smoke that disappears into thin air, and
happiness is the primary craving of every living creature. The quantity theory of money states
that the prices of goods and services heighten while the supply of money increases at the
same rate (Kumar & Raghavendran 2013, pp17). Logically, some physical products, as well
as quality services, can ignite the flame of happiness, and yet, the same feeling can come
without the power of money meddling in people’s lives (Lippitt 2009, pp136). On the other
hand, pursuing money deprives individuals their happiness and also leads to murders and
strife (Nesse 2001, pp75). It is worth noting that not all things in this life can be purchased
because they are priceless, precious, and unique. Consequently, money does not make the
world go round since some things that add happiness to life are free.
Talent
Money 4
Talent propels a man in tatters to great mansions in a matter of time. Nobody writes
application letters to any office to get a measure of ability neither can money nor assets
purchase heavenly gifts. Besides, Adamsen (2016, pp89) argues that money enables
individuals to discover, explore, and expose their talent by providing opportunities through
talent search shows. Conversely, talent cannot be hidden, and people are exploited by others
in a bid to attain fame and wealth (Cynthia 2010, pp219). The good old saying that a fool and
his money are soon parted divinely explains the mischief that happens to those with fortunes
minus sense (Saur n.d). Furthermore, talent management requires fewer finances and more
emotional support since good working relationships enhances productivity (Kumar &
Raghavendran, pp23). Thus, talent is an intrinsic attribute that is unaffected by the
availability of money.
Wisdom
Since the beginning of time, wisdom has been known to increase with age and
experience, and modern humans cannot agree more. The quality of education is profoundly
influenced by money, but taking a child to school does not guarantee his or her academic
excellence. Without any doubts, Solomon chose wisdom over wealth because the latter is not
only cheap, but is also vanity (Saur, n.d). According to Nesse (2001, pp73), the true
definition of money is not only the matter for the head but also for the heart. Contrarily,
Cynthia (2010, pp219) argues that there is no concrete evidence or believable claim that the
correlation between poverty and virtue and that of immorality and riches can apply to the vast
majority of people. Consequently, money plays a little or no part in the acquisition of wisdom
since knowledge and skills are learned by those who yearn for it and not the fortunate.
Love
If love had a price tag, then the poor would be so miserable. Money can smoothen the
path of friendships and accelerate the means of attraction. For instance, rich people usually

have many friends, whether genuine or not, nobody can tell. Based on the triangular theory of
love, a true and lasting relationship is founded on commitment, passion, and intimacy
(Cynthia 2010, pp219). Notwithstanding the happy marriages among members of the elite
class, incidences of divorce, heartbreaks, and breakups are common among relationships built
on money. On the other hand, Lippitt (2009, pp132) posits that love evades a household that
is invaded by poverty since cases of domestic violence are more common in slums than in
cool city suburbs. It is worth noting that a rich man’s jokes are always funny, and so is their
downfall (Nesse 2001, pp73). Consequently, money does not make the world go round given
the fact that true love happens when other factors vanish.
Health
A good hospital facility does not save lives neither does a well-trained health
professional. In fact, many individuals die of diseases that are either preventable or curable
while others miraculously survive deadly ailments (Ritter 2008, pp756). According to the
prospect theory, people make irrational decisions based on perceived gains other than
perceived losses (Christensen & Cohen 2016, n.p). On the other hand, individuals are very
much depressed and conscious of negativity, which makes them adamant about the real deal.
For instance, an average of 251,454 patients in the United States die annually due to medical
errors despite the fact that billions of dollars are spent on the health sector every year
(Christensen & Cohen 2016, n.p). For these reasons, it is evident that money is not so
important in determining which people live or who die.
Conclusion
There are countless things that money can buy; however, things like good health,
love, happiness, talent, and wisdom, are way out of its lead since they are products of good
principles. Moreover, it cannot be equated to success given the fact that health, career,
spirituality, family, community, and personal needs are also indicators of a life well lived.
Money 6
There are numerous cases where great wealth could not save their masters from the jaws of
death. Besides, other aspects of life are also fundamental since both the poor and the rich are
all equal at birth and death. The saying ‘money makes the world go round' asserts that money
is significant and that everything would cease without it. Furthermore, human dependency on
it is not an ‘indispensible’ sort of relationship but a somewhat fragile one. For these reasons,
it is evident that money does not make the world go round.
