Movie Review: A good Year
The movie revolves around the life Max Skinner, who is a London banker and a bond
trader. Max is portrayed as a very ambitious man, willing to do what it takes including
ungentlemanly things to get ahead in life. He is so obsessed with work and his aggressive
approach always propels him in most of his business deals. Issues of finance and money are also
well portrayed in this movie and it is interesting to note that the life of max is greatly motivated
by money and property, which to some extent seem to control his actions and life in general.
There are quite a number of striking issues concerning money, wealth, property and trade.
The movie highlights the power of money, which can push people beyond their limits and Max is
portrayed as someone who can work his soul out and does not value vacations or breaks from
work as long he keeps trading and making money. Upon receiving news that his uncle has died,
Max also sees this as an opportunity to make money by selling the vinery because he is the sole
beneficiary of the property in France since he is not aware of any other person who may be
interested in the property in regard to their family. His greedy motive sees him fix a quick sale of
the property which later becomes a complex issue after the emergence of Christie Roberts and
the interest of Francis Duflot who is not willing to be separated from the vines. Interestingly,
Max’s financial stunt in the trading company also lands the owners in a very big problem and he
is in the process summoned back to London to fix the mess after travelling to Provence to sell his
uncle’s property.
