NATURAL SCIENCE 2
Natural Science
The National Geographic documentary is about a safari that aims at finding out the
natural behavior of the lions, buffaloes, and elephants. First, the documentary begins with the
director and the tourists looking for lions so that they can observe their behaviors. Whereas it is
quite hard to come across any pride of lions, the documentary displays one of the lion’s pride
that is hunting for food. Furthermore, the documentary presents that female lions live together
for life, while most mature males are kicked out of the family so that they can fend for
themselves. It is also possible to note from the documentary that the lions prey on the buffaloes,
thus the creation of the connection between the two animals.
Subsequently, the documentary takes a new turn as the director focuses on the buffaloes
which are grazing in huge herds. One of the most interesting facts that are presented about the
buffaloes is that they are the wild animals which have killed the highest number of hunters, and
that is because they tend to ambush their attackers. Moreover, the film presents a situation where
a lion attacks a younger buffalo and it is interesting how the others stand and gaze at the lion as it
struggles to kill a calf (Geographic, 2018). However, the cooperative nature of the Buffaloes is
displayed since they attempt to attack the pride of lions that have hunted down the calf. The
documentary focuses on the elephants towards its close, and the main highlight is about how they
are the largest living mammals, and that they have the longest gestation period. Lastly, the
documentary ends as it displays a herd of elephant’s drinking water in a swamp.
