Network Design
There are several methods of connecting or setting up a network. A person may choose
whichever method they want to set up their connection depending on the number of computers
that are to be connected. The most common methods used include; setting up the local area's
network, connecting your pc and signing of IP addresses. All these methods can work when used
properly. For this assessment, we will look at two methods.
Setting up LAN
This is so far the easiest method of setting up a network. It involves several steps that
must be followed accurately to ensure that errors are minimized. The first step is to identify the
number of computers being connected. This will help to identify the kind of hardware required to
set up the network appropriately (“www.wikohow.com”). If the computers are less than four like
in the case provided in task 4 then even a single router would work (Huotari, Seppo, et al, 78). If
the computers are more than four, then a router and a switch will be required to make
connections. Determining the network layout is the next step. If the network is being set up to
serve permanently then a permanent capable should be installed (Demuth, Howard B., et al, 4).
This also works with the area that is intended for the connection to cover. If the area is wide,
then switches must be installed at each and every interval. The network hardware that must be

obtained here is the router. This is the mother of all the connections because it is the hardware
that will make one computer a server.
The advantage of this connection is that it is very easy to make. At the same time, anyone
can easily put the steps together and come up with a way of making this system work even with
very little networking knowledge. The main disadvantage is that it is relatively expensive and is
limited only to a few computers.
Assigning IP addresses
This is the second method that is used to set up network connections. There are two
major ways of doing this. The first method would require no router because a system
administrator will only need to make settings on the server computer by manually assigning an
IP address to the computer (“www.wikohow.com”). It is through this IP address that other
computers connect to the server computer. The second way is the use of a router. With this, the
assigning of IP addresses becomes automatic because the router takes care of everything
(Suganthi, Josephine, et al, 31). Each computer in the connection must be assigned a unique IP
address so that information sent can reach the correct destination (Jafarian, Jafar Haadi, Ehab Al-
Shaer and Qi Duan, 45). This is a very short method especially because the router does all the
work of assigning unique IP addresses to a computer. It is good when making a connection that
involves several computers. On the other hand, this method requires a lot of knowledge in IT or
in computer networking.
For the task 4, the best method to use is the assigning of IP addresses. This method is so
far the best in making a connection that will result in accuracy. It also can be used to connect
several computers because the most important things are the assigning of unique IP addresses.
