Obstacles and Pitfalls to Success
It is evident that individual-based care will be effective in ensuring that patients get quick
recovery. Equally, there are high chances of eliminating stigma associated with patients in
hospital wards. Besides, patients will get the required care that will facilitate appropriate
response to medication. However, there are many challenges or pitfalls that are associated with
the success of individual-based care. This paper highlights some of the challenges that might
hinder the successful development of an individual-based care system.
One of the challenges in regard to individual-based care is financial constraint. A lot of
monetary resources will be required to facilitate individual-based health care services. This
means that a deficit will occur on the budget allocated for the activities of health facilities.
Besides, individual-based care might require expensive and delicate equipment that might not be
affordable amongst patients.
Moreover, the issue of new technology will pose a vast challenge. For instance, it is
expected that Archimedes IndiGO Model will be incorporated in the implementation of the
individual-based care. This will require a lot of monetary resources to pay for the model and
also to pay the experts involved (Ulrich, 1999). Although the software for the model will identify
risks associated with the patient, it will require a lot of monetary resources; a factor that might
make it not viable depending on the budgetary allocation of health facilities.
Equally, some of the services offered in relation to the individual-based care at homes
will be highly expensive. It might hinder their effectiveness in ensuring that patients get quick
recovery. In most cases, the services above are centralized thereby making it cheap for patients

within the health facility. Therefore, inadequate financial resources to offer the required health
services will be a challenge to the system. In fact, there is no way such a system can be
established if there are no adequate funds.
Besides, it will not be easy to find investors who will be willing to invest in individual-
based care. Similarly, it will be difficult for health facilities to sponsor the individual-base care
because of the limited resources at their disposal. Investor might not be sure of the returns that
would be obtained from such investments. Therefore, the chances of the implementation and
success of the individual-based care will be particularly minimal.
Furthermore, issues of logistics might pose a grand challenge to the implementation of
the individual-based care. It will require the health facility to plan on the way the medics will get
into the homes of patients. Besides, the facility must appropriately plan for its human resource
so that there is no shortage of paramedics at the facility. This, in addition to acquisition of
portable, medical equipment, will be highly expensive (Rapp, Etzelwise, Marty, Coffman,
Carlson, Asher, Callaghan & Holter, 2010). Therefore, the system might not be variable because
of the monetary resources involved and implications that would result from the same.
Furthermore, implementation of individual-based care will require formulation and
adherence to ethical guidelines. The World Health Organization (WHO) must certify that all
guidelines are followed because the health services will be offered away from a health facility.
Therefore, there is the need to implement all the WHO requirements before the individual-based
care system is implements. This is not an easy exercise, and it might require a lot of resources
that would overwhelm health facilities (Shortell, Gillies, Anderson, Mitchell, Morgan, 1993).
There is also a likelihood that some hospitals might be willing to adopt the guidelines that might
be proposed for the individual-based care. This will hinder the implementation of the plan.
