ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT 2
I. Problems
The problems at Sundale Club can be categorized into two parts; Macro and Micro.
Macro problems represent those problems that are significant while the micro problems are those
that are trivial in the athletic social club.
a. Macro
One of the macro problems in this situation is the reluctance of Haven to approach Ellis
about the issue affecting the employees. Johnson who is a homosexual, sexually approaches
other employees. The employees are disturbed by Johnson’s advances on them. Their plea
towards Haven is however not forwarded to Ellis who is in charge. Haven should have faced his
fear and approached Ellis about the situation.
The second macro-problem at the social club is Ellis dismissing the complaints brought
to him by Haven. Haven who is his junior knows how the system works and how the club his
run. Ellis who is the senior employee that could handle such a matter defends Johnson. The
problem worsens as a result of Ellis incompetence.
The last micro-problem is Watts’s approach to the issue. Watts is the director and senior
most employee of the club. Due to the nature of his situation, where he is about to retire, he
shuns the plea brought about by Haven. The end results are disgruntled employees and an
escalation of the problem which should not have been the case.
b. Micro
One of the micro-problems in this situation is Ellis’s friendship with Johnson. Their
friendship is affecting how the social club is run. It has no boundaries and this can be seen when
Ellis defends Johnson instead of looking into the matter to ascertain the truth. Their friendship
should not affect the way Ellis runs the club.
