Narrative Speech
Throughout my life, I always sought for motivation or its source. For sure, I was not very
confident of why I needed to be motivated or inspired to do, but it never came to my attention
that the source of my motivation was near my home. The cause of my motivation can as a
surprise since it was my sister who came to be my source of motivation.
If I can look back to those people, who have impacted my life, for sure my sister has a
more significant impact on my life. It was my sister who taught me that having a delayed
enjoyment of life is better than the immediate satisfaction that takes place in one’s life.
Education was not one of my top priorities when I was schooling, but I could observe my sister
just sitting for a whole night; up to 2 am just to do her studies. I just kept on checking for those
celebrities and socialites whose lives were just great thinking that the future or my future will fall
into place. It was until that my sister became the valedictorian of the class that she was in that I
came to my sense and I realized that hard work yields excellent results. She was, therefore, the
praise as well as the prestige of the family at the time, and that’s when the reality hit me hard.
The act of changing one’s lifestyle to a more responsible lifestyle is the hardest, so I
found it difficult to adjust my carefree lifestyle to lifestyle that needed me to act responsibly. I
felt hopeless due to being fatigued from doing tasks that I never did before like studying until
late night; I felt as though I was alone in a tunnel of misery. However, I started noticing that
somehow, that my grades began to improve slowly by slowly and my parents saw and started to
reward. I could see the beacon of light shining towards my goals that were just a grasp away.
Due to the hard work, I was awarded for my effort. As a graduate walking down the stage to
receive my certificate, I was very proud, and I felt no sense of regrets for my hard work, and I
