Before Adam was
I hear the sound of the flute and the lyre
A common note it is
A people merry and cry, hearts chained
And the clock tickles back to the origin
5
Who begat this mastermind?
We have the fragments of the pure jewellery
They’re deep, wide, hard, timeless
And the world bows to its grandeur
Kings and paupers, elite and the common
10
Where was it born?
A beautiful house a beautiful architect
Nations in the stream of time have lifted their hands up
All roads leading to the origin
In search of the Fountain wherein music came
15
Before father Adam, music was
A voice once sang the perfect melody to the universe
The sounds travelled through space and time
A piece fell here and there
The master is become the student of the Fountain
Before Adam was Poem and Commentary 3
20
Like a tap filling a can
It has won hearts to hearts
Painted our society in full dimensions of life
The melting of black hearts without reservation
Bringing hate to the stake
25
That is music
In a while, before the fountain we stand
To touch and feel music in reality
Before then, all the perfect examples shall be as samples
For never had the fragments been tailored into one
30
As when the Fountain poured the melody to men.
Commentary
This piece has been written through a cherishing of imagination, of how beautiful the
music can be. Nature as the mother source and foundation of all creative art works provides
ideas from which any kind of work can be written. You coin one item to another, by watching
the patterns displayed around us. The legends of the field whose names will live forever as
gods like Frederick Handel, Mozart composed so complex pieces for performances which we
adore to date. One is only left to ask themselves, who inspired them? Is it talent or more than
talent? Many musicians across all lands, continually in time have produced their marvellous
work. Writing a piece of poem on music will connect the dots of time. The themes and
content will be best perceived by intuition.

With full freedom has the piece been developed. The scholarly materials studied so
far have a neutral view of the necessity to usage of particular styles. The overriding guideline
is communication to the audience. The restrictions of form and style could limit the
expression of thought. Since the piece is simply meant to paint what music is, its origin, its
creators, and not for performances, I choose to employ the poet’s freedom. But it is more
relevant here to make understood that I do not feel the usual sense of subject in poetry to be
of much use. My generation has a particular qualification to make of this factor because it
came of age at a time when a man's writing was either admitted or denied in point of its
agreement with the then fashionable concerns of 'poetic' comment” (Creeley, 1972, 487). To
the most touched person by an occurrence, music and poetry speaks the deepest. All through,
the piece uses first person voice to articular the picture at hand.
It was relatively taxing to come with the piece. You behold the beauty of something
and you get the challenge of putting it down. Folliott S. Pierpoint’s For the beauty of the
earth with the works of Eleanor Farjeon, Morning has broken are perfect examples of
encounters with nature. In their walks through the woods and mountain, they take the notes of
the nature patterns (Templeton, 2008). Theirs has a lot of rhyming and consistent meter all
through their pieces. Trying to edit, redraft and fix the rhymes into the poem could take away
the clarity of expression I intended. Reading from similar works, the mind is shaped to be as
original and authentic as possible, narrating the thoughts as simple as possible for the
message to reach the audience vividly. “Precision in this context, means, accuracy of
transcription: the poet conveys more than his nonpoetic counterpart, the meanings inherent in
a particular set of experiences” (Perloff, 1991, 32). To the many questions asked in life, and
there seems to be no particular answer, the genesis of all things answers them.
Imagery is transcribed from nature. I intended to use simple imagery to illustrate the
major subjects I had. The structure of syllables will not be as much a component to consider

to produce desired objects. However, there is need to beautifully develop a diction of words
which and syntactic beauty to the text. Some audiences love onomatopoeic expressions,
consonance flowing through a piece for them to appreciate a piece as good. This is an area for
my future works, I’ll put more effort to.
Exploring type of writing is open to addition of any ideas to a piece anyhow as
opposed to planned approach. There was a temptation of writing endlessly while in the
middle of the piece. In the future, this piece shall be a part of the greater work I would wish
to publish. The small snippet has shone light on how the structure should be well planned for
before delving into it.
The first step in the future works shall be building a draft of the size, the structure and
form of a poetic work. In it the motives and objectives be featured critically. The one I
developed will form the introduction to a whole panorama of the subject of music. Music
being wide, the most common intangible item consumed by humanity, and second to water
can never be exhausted in describing its origin and forms. In the large piece, it will provide a
bigger ground to better develop the themes.
