The increased visibility of juvenile crime has raised many suggestions regarding the most
appropriate interrogation method. Subjecting the young people to a strong police interrogation
can make innocent young people to confess being guilty especially in instances where they are
now aware of their rights.
For this particular case, many characteristics affect the manner in which girls respond to
an interrogation. Firstly, young girls who feel threatened to disclose certain information may be
forced to give the wrong information regarding the case being investigated. To address such
issues, there is need for the interrogation team to use friendly ways of extracting information
from such girls. The police should ask questions depending on the verbal response from a young
girl. Secondly, young girls who hate interacting with men usually find it very difficult to give the
right information especially in instances where they are interrogated by male police officers. In
such situations, it is important to engage female officers to carry out the process. The best way to
extract vital information from young girls is to develop interesting themes where girls feel free to
answer all questions asked by the interrogators. Young girls who seem to be aware of being
molested would also find it difficult to disclose what really happened. This happens in instances
where young girls are afraid of threats made by their molester(s).
As a police detective dealing with this molestation case, a number of difficulties hinder a
successful interrogation process. A major challenge is the lack of scientific or medical evidence.
In many times, cases on molestation occur in secrecy meaning that it is not easy to have a
witness. To overcome such a challenge, I would ensure that the questioning process is carried out
in a manner that has the potential to extract the truth. There is no point of conducting the
investigation process in a way that forces the molested person to give information that aligns to

my presumptions. Secondly, an interrogation process may be hindered by the lack of appropriate
interviewing skills. Using an inappropriate technique to interview a molested person can make
him or her be unable to differentiate between the suggestions and the truth imposed by the
interviewer. In extreme cases, using such methods on a young molested child can lead to the
compounding of earlier statements made regardless of whether they are true or false. In order for
me to extract useful information from a young molested child, I would consider using other
alternative interviewing techniques such as the use of anatomical drawings, storytelling, and
picture drawing.
Many factors dictate the extent to which prosecutors and defense attorneys should
question young girls. In instances where the government is involved in the case, a defense
attorney is allowed to defend young girls involved in the case. On the other hand, the prosecutor
may question girls on the stand on behalf of the state. After extracting enough information, the
prosecutors usually review the available evidence to enable them make a decision on whether
drop the case or file charges.
Conclusively, it is clear that conducting an interrogation on young people is not a simple
task. In order to extract the correct information from the accused persons, there is a great need
for the investigators or the police to use an appropriate interrogation method.
