Human beings rights are moral norms guided by various principles. There are some
rights regarded as inalienable and is applicable in any setup and are inherent to all human
beings. Having the freedom of speech does not mean that one can say whatever they wish to
say without facing any consequences. The constitution prohibits one from using his/her
statement to course harm to a person through speaking ill of specific groups like women,
conservatives, liberals, Muslims, immigrants men and members of the LGBT
community(Inter Nations, 2018). Every individual has the opportunity to speak their minds
but when one upset the other person that is regarded as derogatory to another individual.
However, the right to say something means that an individual has the entitlement to
expressing himself/herself through words. Therefore, this type of expression is known as the
freedom of speech where a person has the right to say something by expressing their
emotions, thinking, and ideas. Nevertheless, it is wrong to abuse this right by using word of
mouth to inflict harm on a person. People often have the notion that every individual has the
right to free speech, where many cases of abuse this right by using it in unacceptable
ways(United States Courts, 2018).
Freedom of speech does not mean that an individual can utter any thought or feeling
he or she wants to express. The right to say something is always protected but with certain
limits because some utterances attract various consequences. When people are entitled to
freedom of speech, it means that nobody can stop anybody from saying something (United
States Courts, 2018). This can be avoided by choosing the right words that do not attract any
consequence and do not cause conflict. However, every situation is typically different;
therefore, whatever a person utters depends on the content of whatever idea one is discussing,
examining the underlying relationship with another person and the cultures of the two people
conversing.

Sometimes people choose not to say something for various reasons. These reasons
include the fear of facing unprecedented consequences that may result in punishment and
conflict. Therefore, this reminds people that they cannot say anything they want without
suffering any consequences (Risma, 2016). This is because people have restriction
concerning the words used in public. Additionally, people choose not to say something due to
the avoidance of causing any offense. This is because most of the speeches are accompanied
by emotions and actions that sometimes invite unnecessary conflicts, some also refrain from
this due to the fear of conflict. Therefore, an expression is not only a mode of communication
but also a channel for showing actions. Thus, the constitution provides people with the
opportunity and right to freely articulate their opinions without compassing the forbidden
speech acts. Most people understand that they must adhere to the rules of conduct that guides
freedom of speech. Even with the ability for people to widely share their diverse ideas
bringing the notion that, it is never marketplace of free conversations. Therefore, words might
have high power, and it is essential for people to choose words wisely. People should show
some form of kindness, understanding, and goodwill to others. People case not to say
something due to Political correctness, which in this case gives them the opportunity to offer
progressive ideas in their speech. At this point, they avoid using offensive, discriminatory,
judgemental vocabulary that targets gender and race. Some people choose not say something
because some may often speak what their mind and heart feel, giving them the courage to
engage in actions that support their statements, which sometimes are accompanied by
unprecedented consequences. However, through the US constitution the Americans have and
enjoy the right to speak freely, but it prohibits them from engaging in actions that may inflict
pain or harm to others. Therefore, political correctness comes in by seeking to protect the
wellbeing of these minority groups (Inter Nations, 2018).

Political correctness shows how a person presents their speeches for various reasons
through limiting them with the right to utter their thinking freely. Therefore, the idea makes
people believe that practicing freedom of speech and language that may seem offensive to
any group should be minimized and eliminated (Weigel, 2016). The idea is providing a
foundation for those groups especially the minorities who are mainly victims of abuses.
Political correctness prevents people from having the freedom do utter anything human
beings find debatable. It shuts down opinions that primarily are labeled as hate speeches. As
such may not be reflected as hate speech in the book of the law, political correctness subject
Americans to choose not to say something just for those reasons. Political correctness
influences various decisions regarding the statement. Therefore, the idea is to help societies
uphold values, which in this case contradicts the free provisions of the freedom of speech as
stipulated in the constitution. Similarly, it helps regulate the use of phrases that may be
divisive, discriminatory, or abusive. The US constitution guarantees its citizens with
provisions of freedom of speech and expression a basis of the American foundation (Li,
2017).
