A leader should inspire his/her followers to work towards achievement of the set goals
To achieve the set goals and objectives at times requires execution of changes in the learning
environment. An effective leader should not only implement change with purpose and
confidence but also have a clear vision of their goals. The role of providing quality education
falls on the jurisdiction of a strong collaboration between the students, teachers, and the
community (Epstein et al.2018). Evidently, community engagement is an important part of a
successful educational framework. Parents and community involvement is a critical factor
influencing the success of students and learning environment. This script will discuss a
professional leadership plan intended to bring change through parents and community
engagement in school.
Changes are inevitable for bringing success in any learning environment. The anticipated
learning changes include: enhancing school community partnerships, engaging the community in
decision making, and fostering an active community involvement in learning activities. The
proposed changes for the professional leadership plan are purposed to achieve three major goals.
Firstly, the proposed changes are intended to promote partnerships between schools and the
community through creation of community school trustees. The schools will be governed by an
elected board of trustees selected by the community members. The trustees have the authority to
conduct the general oversight of school activities and hold the school principal accountable to
teachers’ performance. Secondly, the changes are intended to involve the community in school
development activities. Schools require various developments from one time to another. For
example, the community can be involved in the construction of new facilities such as libraries
and resource centers. The third goal of the proposed changes is to engage the community in

assessing the quality of education offered to their children and the learning environment. Each
community member will have a responsibility of ensuring that the school offers an education that
will benefit their children. This goal will be accomplished by involving experienced community
members in preparation of learning resources.
Implementing the mentioned changes in the learning environment will have various
benefits. Engaging the parents in decision making provides a vast integration between them and
the school (Hartman, 2017). Thus, the parents feel as being part of the school. When parents feel
closely associated with the school, they tend to be more concerned about the education and
progress of their children. Enhancing school and parent partnerships through creation of a board
of trustees gives the community a direct responsibility over the school. Each trustee has a role in
ensuring proper running of the school. As such, all trustees have a personal contact with the
school. Involving the parents in school assessment helps to develop a good relationship between
them and the school. Each parent has a way of ensuring quality education is being offered by the
school. The idea of engaging experienced community members in the review of learning
resources ensures community participation in bringing educational change.
Evaluations are required to assess the implemented changes. The school will have a sheet
for filling and appending signatures whenever community members participate in the process of
reviewing some learning materials. The sheet will show the number of times that members have
participated in such an activity and the dates. School and community partnerships will be
evaluated based on direct assessing whether the school has taskforces to oversee various
activities. For instance, each trustee member will be a chair of a committee. Thus, the presence
of committees and the work done by each committee will be used to indicate if the school has a
well-developed partnership with the community. Direct observation will be used to evaluate

whether the community is involved in school development activities. For instance, the presence
of ultra-modern buildings and ongoing projects will show that the community is supporting
school developmental activities.
Reading nights can be very effective in fostering an effective change. A reading night is a
community organized platform that brings together parents, teachers, and children (Epstein et
al.2018). Various activities can be conducted during a reading night; for instance students
reading challenge, mini-workshops, and parents’ short motivational talks. Reading nights
increase the parents’ knowledge level about things they can do at home to help nurture their
students reading abilities. Reading nights involve more parents and community members in the
education of their children. As such, they feel welcomed as part of reading partners.
Additionally, reading nights helps the parents to develop a value for the education of their
children. Moreover, reading nights facilitate an interactive approach to partnering with parents
and other community members to inspire the love of reading in children.
Evidently, the reading night program cannot run effectively without materials and
resources. To ensure that the platform is functional, parents and the will have a coordinator who
will spearhead the program. Additionally, books, journals, and magazines will be required. The
reading materials will provide knowledge to both students and the community members. Since
the program is intended to encourage reading among students and the community as a whole, it
will be necessary to have small prices. As such, parents who will produce students with the best
reading skills in various subjects will be rewarded.
