1. Explain how project management is a “leader intensive” profession.
A project leader is the embodiment of the vision of a project. Expressly, he or she should
understand a project’s scope, schedule, and objectives with absolute clarity. Project
management is leader-intensive because it entails the coordination of the efforts of other
team members by the leader, resource, and schedule management to realize achieve the
objectives of a specific project.
2. Differentiate between the role of a manager and the characteristics of a leader.
A Manager is tasked with spearheading the pursuit of organizational objectives. To
do so, they have junior employees who they monitor and supervise.
Characteristics of a leader: Motivational, inspirational, accountable, vision bearer,
honesty, integrity, and risk taker.
3. Explain the concept of emotional intelligence as it relates to how project managers
lead.
Emotional intelligence refers to leader’s capacity to recognize and manage other people’s
emotions or feelings and response to them appropriately. Emotional intelligence enables
leaders to utilize their social skills, self-awareness, regulation, and empathy to relate with
subordinates.
