PROVERB EXPLANATION 2
East or west, home is best
The proverb ‘East or west home is the best' is famous and one of the most common
axioms used by individuals describing their hometowns with high levels of pride. The
importance of home in the life of an individual cannot be quantified, hence the need to value our
backgrounds regardless the situations in life (Nahius & Parikh, 2012). I partly agree with the
proverb, since from experience, home can be the best, and also the worst depending on
circumstances. The feeling that an individual develops towards their home is proportional to that
with the family and cohabitants.
However, there is a need to always value and exercise affection, which leads to
happiness. In fact, a lot of people can find peace, happiness and comfort in strange places, and
amongst strange people. Sad memories can make one to be entirely alienated by their
environment, which fully depends on the prevailing situations. Referring to the case above,
orphans are also able to find the affection they need, coupled with unconditional love from other
mothers, fathers, and peers (Nahius & Parikh, 2012). Most orphans end up considering the
orphanage as their home, despite the lack of any flesh and blood relationship with the individuals
there.
In my view, home can be the best place in the world, only depending on how
circumstances are, and what you consider a home to be. Love, kindness, serenity, and acceptance
are associated with ‘home,' which makes comfort prevail and remain the most desired aspects.
Appreciation is the best gift everyone can get in life (Nahius & Parikh, 2012). This proverb has
come a long way and helps explain the significance of home, compared to strange places, people,
and environments altogether. If everything goes well in your life, and no memories torment you,
then evidently, ‘East or west, home is best.'
