jobs or even paid lower ages (Gregory 36). It is also experienced in education whereby the male
child is given priority to acquire education particularly in the developing states.
Additionally, some employers are still pursuing outdated ideas about certain jobs being
appropriate for men and what is suitable for women as well as how that work should be
rewarded. Women are believed to be inferior and do not perform well in certain tasks such as
physical jobs. To some extent, employers ignore sexual harassment in the place of work. They
enforce rules that put either men or women at an unfair disadvantage. Such discriminative
aspects influences the self-worth of the women as it makes them to be perceived as inferior to
men (Gregory 172). However, the 2010 Equality Act played a major role in protecting
everyone’s rights in aspects of life irrespective of gender, religion, race, and age. The regulation
stands against victimization, harassment, direct discrimination and indirect discrimination. Age
discrimination can be positive or negative depending on the situations. For instance, age
determines the licensure and participation of certain contracts. Contracts with a minor can be
considered legally binding.
Conclusively, racial discrimination has been rampant and the most experienced form of
discrimination in America for decades. Due to its effects on the society, there has been efforts to
set up laws eradicate racial segregation. Racism can be traced back in the Jim Crow era and
during the industrialization period when voting rights were determined by race. In today’s
society, discrimination is almost inevitable following social stratification and race factor. Access
to social services and certain privileges is available to individuals and groups with respect to
power, wealth, ethnic background, age and gender among other factors. Discrimination impacts
negatively on the society since lowers the self-esteem and instills fear and hatred for the
dominant group.
