Recommendations for Future Enhancements 1

Recommendations for Future Enhancements
Introduction
Before an IT system is fully implemented, a lot of considerations are required. The
implementation of this project was a challenge for us because the previous systems that needed
to be merged into one centralized system were not built with consideration for future
enhancement. The new database system implemented is an IT management application to
support current business operations along with future ones. An important factor in this
preparation is the ease of the system to allow future enhancement and upgrade. To achieve this,
one can evaluate each stakeholder’s position within the company, their responsibilities, and even
the impact it may cause to their specific departments. (Harrin, 2016)
The change expected after implementation of this system is inevitable and may affect the morale
and attitude of many individuals. The workers need to be notified of the intended and change and
training should follow to make them prepared for the system. The implications of the change
should also be assessed to maintain that only cost effective change is put in place. (Frank
Beckers, n.d.)
Success and challenges of the project
The project was a success in that the final deliverable fulfilled all the requirements of the user
and it was not vulnerable to attacks of compromise in term of security. The tests conducted were
successful and their results showed that the system was a success. The project was completed
within the scheduled time and within the set budget.
The first challenge we faced when implementing the infrastructure was security. This is because
enhancement of the system always results to a compromise to the security could bring loss to the
organization. Other challenges included determining the correct infrastructure which would be
less costly and which would produce the maximum benefits. We were working on a limited
budget and resources were to be utilized effectively. Testing the system also posed as another
challenge. (Clark, 2014)
Modification strategy/plan
The modification strategy involved putting what we had documented in the design plan into
practice. We had first worked with a prototype and realized that the project would be a success.
We therefore modified the prototype focusing on the challenges posed at prototyping phase and
accounted for any vulnerabilities, challenges and loopholes. The initial system involved
individual database systems for individual firms and the result was a successful well-centralized
database for the merged company’s database. (Scheid, 2011)
The implementation was faced with various challenges since the previous systems had not been
made in consideration to future changes or improvement. We therefore had to modify the system
to be such a way that future merges would be handled effectively and the database system
improved as per the requirement. The modification also relied on the outcomes of the project at
testing phase testing to ensure a successful database. Modification strategy was also used in
developing the database model, the simulation, the prototype as well as the proof of concept all
which acted as an alternative during the full implementation of the project. (Bunner, 2017)
The potential issue
One potential issue that arose during project implementation is security challenge. Due to the
extended scope of the system and the scarce nature of resources which required us to include
more participants in the system, there is a chance that the security may be vulnerable to attack.
Regular maintenance of the systems is therefore recommended to save the organization from
security breach. These maintenance practices will be done every now and then to maintain that
no threat goes unmonitored. Regular preventative maintenance will consists of tasks required to
be performed with the systems being monitored. (Harrin, 2016)
Conclusion
An important factor in an IT system is the ease at which the system to allow future enhancement
and upgrade. The system need to be dynamic and keep embracing changes faced in the IT
environments .However, the change may bring positive or negative implication. Keen analysis is
required to maintain that IT systems implemented allow for future improvement without
compromising the system in terms of security as this may bring adverse impacts to an
organization. (Bisk, n.d.)
