Overview of Selected Evidenced-based Practice Project
Evidence-based practice has been very influential in public health sector since it has
dramatically changed the way public health services are delivered to the population within a given
community. Public health sector focuses on two main aims as it tries to cater for the health services
within the community. The first one involves enhancing and promoting both physical as well as
mental health of the residents within a society and the second one involves protecting the
population from contracting diseases and from getting injured. Evidence-based practice has
impacted a lot on these two aims of public health since it has enabled nurse practitioners and other
healthcare providers to make concise decisions that are well informed by the research in the
nursing field (Stevens, 2013). Evidence-based practice has created a platform which gives each
patient a chance to receive high-quality treatment and also get the right medication for the illness
based on the already existing information and data. Research impacts on evidence-based practice
since it leads to the development of effective ways of offering health services to the community.
Additionally, research results in the provision of reliable and accurate data which further
complements the evidence-based practice.
The selected nursing issue I choose to deal with is that concerning with educating,
empowering as well as informing people about the issues relating to health within the society. This
issue is critical in the nursing field since if well implemented, it can lead to a self-sustainable
culture which makes it easier for the health officers to provide services to the people (Briggs et al.,
2015). Nurses have a role to play which involves informing the public of the health issues in their
midst and even educate them on the diverse ways of responding to these issues. By doing so, the
nurses will be in a position to build a community that is capable of relying on its abilities. Nurses

can be able to execute this issue by holding public press which will give them the platform to
outline the health issues and the possible ways of responding to them.
The rationale which led me to select this specific issue is because the field of nursing is
diverse and covers an extensive area which includes creating a healthcare system which can be
relied on by the public. One way through which nurse practitioners and other healthcare service
providers can create a society which is free of diseases is through empowering people. The
information that the nurses give to the public does not only teach them how to prevent diseases but
also teach them how to respond to emergencies. It is an undoubted fact that the aspect of avoiding
diseases is the most effective medication that can be used by healthcare service providers in the
fight against new infections as well as existing diseases (Briggs et al., 2015). Prevention will be
most effective when it is carried out as a joint task between the public and the nurses after the
public is well informed and educated.
Application to Selected MSN Program Specialty Track
The specialty track which has high relevance in the task involving giving information as
well as empowering the public on health issues in their midst is the Nursing Executive Leadership
and Advanced Role Development (Chang et al., 2012). Owing to the high-level skills within the
nursing leadership as well as the advanced role development, I will be in a position to analyze
health matters with high-level skills and abilities. It is an undoubted fact that the act of educating
the public requires the person giving the information to have a strong personality and at the same
time be in possession of technical expertise. Therefore, the specialty track will accord me the
chance to learn more about the community which will enable me to devise on the best public health
procedures to be enacted within that community. In short, the advanced knowledge that is

embedded in nursing leadership will offer me the skills which will assist me in handling all health
matters that arise and need to be addressed within the shortest time possible.
Nursing Issue and Supportive Evidence Regarding the Issue
As outlined earlier, the selected nursing issue I choose to deal with is that concerning with
educating, empowering as well as informing people about the issues relating to health within the
society. This issue deals with eradicating health ignorance embedded within the population in a
community and in turn equip them with skills as well as the knowledge that they require to be in
a position to build a society that is capable of defending itself against any new infections as well
as existing diseases (Levin, 2012). Additionally, the knowledge provided gives the people the
skills to develop health strategies that are key to addressing health pandemics within the
community.
The act of educating as well as informing the public can be conducted using several
channels which will increase its effectiveness. For instance, the nurses and other healthcare service
providers can provide toll-free numbers to the public which will give the people a platform where
they can inquire about health issues in their midst. Through this platform, the health care providers
will be in a position to address the issue by giving accurate and reliable information to the people
which will set a significant landmark in health sector. Additionally, the nurses can collaborate with
other private health care providers so that they can join hands in informing the public on the health
issues present in the society. Empowering the people differs slightly from educating and informing
the public since it deals with developing health programs that are aimed at supporting the groups
that offer parenting support which in the long run promotes mental health. These groups help in
the formulation of plans which enhances public awareness on matters relating to health (Levin,
2012).

The issue that has been highlighted above coexists among people and therefore needs
attention may it be daily, weekly or monthly. This issue needs to be addressed continuously, and
hence it should not be a matter of waiting for a specific day so that it can be resolved. The act of
educating, empowering as well as informing the public exists throughout the lifetime of somebody
and therefore, lifetime preventive approaches need to be devised to mitigate the health pandemics
rather than waiting for an issue to erupt and spend a lot of time and resources looking for a solution.
Medical practitioners, physicians, national leaders and employers are the primary
stakeholders impacted upon by this issue. However, the impact realized by these stakeholders
would be positive since they would all benefit in case the program to address this issue is
implemented and becomes successful. For this issue to be addressed, the effort of various
stakeholders will be required as Briggs et al. (2015) outlines. In essence, churches, schools,
employers in multiple companies, as well as health practitioners, will be required to chip in their
efforts in collaboration so that addressing this issue becomes a success. The combined efforts of
all these stakeholders will result in the development of programs which will act as platforms for
educating the public about health issues. Another solution to this issue would be by providing
training to the healthcare staff which will equip them with skills that will be essential in addressing
the highlighted issue appropriately and efficiently (Wallace, 2015). The issue highlighted above is
one that requires diligence as well as the commitment that will be obtained from the training that
will be provided.
The expected outcome is that there will be a high-end success though it will only be realized
if all the stakeholders collaborate. This is because the programs will lead to the identification of
solutions to health problems being faced by the community. Additionally, the public will be in a
position to enact measures aimed at preventing diseases since they will already be skilled at

handling health issues that could have otherwise been solved by medical practitioners (Melnyk et
al., 2014).
Evidence-based Practice Question
The issue that has been highlighted above is of qualitative nature, and hence, population,
interest as well as context (PICo) format is the most relevant (Butler and Copnell, 2016). Under
the aspect of population, there are diverse diseases that take my interest as some are communicable
whereas others are non-communicable. This element, therefore, necessitates the need for the
population to understand the most effective channels of protecting itself from these diseases. For
instance, immunization is one of the ways that can be used by the public as a measure of protecting
itself against new infections. The aspect of interest as used in public health sector refers to the
most appropriate mode of protection that would be adopted in case of an emergency as Butler and
Copnell (2016) outline.
It is worth noting that it is necessary to make sure that the population within a community
is capable of developing mechanisms for self-defense against new infections. This necessitates the
need to develop societies that initiate programs that benefit even future generations other than only
helping the current one which will eliminate the high capital that is used in providing medical
services from the government. Finally, the context, as an element of the PICo format, is mainly
within the general American population as well as the entire system of hospital management.
Everyone in the USA has been covered by the programs destined to be rolled out with time.
Moreover, all ages have been targeted by these programs since this practice is meant to be passed
on to the coming generations.

Conclusion
Overall, developing a practical approach will be vital in addressing issues related to health
through the creation of awareness to the public. Provision of information, education as well as
empowering the general public can be utilized as a useful tool in addressing health issues within
the community. However, the success of this tool will depend on the willingness to participate and
support by all the stakeholders involved. Evidence-based practice has dramatically impacted the
healthcare sector since it has offered innovation that has led to the delivery of excellent healthcare
services to the public. Through evidence-based practice, medical practitioners are capable of
making well-informed decisions that are based on the already available information and data.
