Rhetorical Analysis of a Professional Web Text
http://www.visit-antalya.com/
The above website is owned by the tourism board of Antalya. Antalya is a city on the
Mediterranean coast of south-western Turkey. The city is the Turkish capital of international
tourism. The city is the main tourist destination with Mediterranean climate has attracted tourists
from all corners of the world. Antalya has taken all the Turkey’s cultural and historic past and
has numerous tourist facilities such as hotels and clubs, restaurants and bars that are modern.
Good infrastructures and transport facilities in the city makes it the best in tourism.
The tourism sector, however, decided to partner with the owners of these facilities and
came up with the visit-Antalya website to provide the tourist easy access of the city’s resources
such as hotel booking, provide an overview of the city before traveling and enables them to book
accommodation in advance before they start traveling. The website however from my rhetorical
analysis shows that it was written and managed by a professional web developer. The writer of
the web text in the website focused on the main purpose and reason of creating the web page.
The web page was mainly for tourism purposes and hence the target audience here are the
tourists or visitors that come to the city for recreational and tourism purposes.

The background of the writer in the web page in my view is that he or she ail from the
city and has a passion for tourism. The organization of the content in the website tells it all. The
target group of the content being the tourists from all corners of the world, the designer of the
web page has critically examined and displayed all the resources including the tourist attractions
in the content of the website. The needs of the audience of the page are tourist attraction sites,
accommodation services and anything that is related to tourism. The page, however, has
highlighted all these needs and the audience can view them and even book for their
accommodation services before they travel to Antalya.
The intended audiences of the web page are from different races, religions, and nations
globally whose main goal and value is traveling for adventure and exploring the world. Hence
their attitude towards this page is simply positive. The overall intention of the text in the page is
to lure more visitors to visits Antalya. Other intentions are to help grow the economy of the
country as a whole, this is because tourism activities provide job opportunities to the locals and
help in raising revenues to the government which in return they are used for development
purposes.
The audiences are capable of finding this texts and content of the web page by simply
visiting the website and viewing all the information on it. After viewing the contents they can
proceed and book their accommodations by reserving them. The content in the page shows good
reputation to its members has it does not attack any race or religion but welcomes tourists to
Antalya. The genre of the content of the page can be said to be narrative as it tells more about the
sequence of events in the city of Antalya. The text can also be said to be procedural because it
gives the instructions of visiting the city and hotel reservations. The content of the page is also
expository, it explains more about what is in Antalya and also it is both descriptive and hortatory,

the text gives that characteristics of the place, for example, the type of climate in the area and
encourages more people to visit the Gulf of Antalya.
The best mode for this web text is the automated emails, social media, and
advertisements. These modes are the preferred ones because are the leading and fast method of
distributing messages affordably and efficiency. The text content here fits the stated goals and
values of the Antalya professional community because it describes and tells more about the
resources in the region that encourages more visitors to visit the place enabling them to develop
and earn a living. However, the text has not touched on the cultural practices of the community.
The page should have highlighted some cultural activities found in the region but instead, the
writer has focused on hotels reservations and natural tourist attraction sites. The text of the page
communicates the goals effectively to the audience since it provides the rhetoric picture of how
Antalya looks like. The writer has used good graphics and a beautiful scenery as the cover
picture of the web page hence it catches the readers eye.
