Energy is a vital resource which everyone and every aspect of a developing economy
must appreciate due to its speedy transformation of economic productive capacity and
growth. However, Nigeria cannot boast of stable power supply to her citizens despite being
the giant of Africa. The status has so far affected the production capacity by hampering the
economic, social, political and technological developments of the country. The situation is
too unfortunate that Nigeria do not make to adequately offer the rapidly rising population
with a stable energy development programme which guarantee sustainability and considers
cost-effective methods within the green agenda. Therefore, reducing energy wastage
involves managing the expansion plan that aims at diversifying the energy capacities of
domestic and industrial sectors among other large consumers. To accomplish this idea, it
calls for more insight in form of relevant knowledge and skills to handle the transformation
of Nigeria from energy crisis to a stable and sustainable energy provider. Hence my desire to
study PhD in Renewable Energy Engineering through the Commonwealth scholarship
funded by the British Government so that I may be acquainted with the requisite skills to
manage the sustainability of our country’s energy.
Moreover, the national economic sustainability and growth faces a threat from the
inadequate supply of energy coupled by the increasing demand. The country seeks to
prioritize the exploitation of various alternative sources of generating energy in the most
economical and environment friendly way. Consequently, Nigeria has coined the Power
Reform process in the Vision 2020 aiming at generating power from nuclear energy.
Currently, Nigeria relies on energy generated from water, gas, solar, and steam. There are
other existing potentials (wind, biomass, nuclear) which are yet to be exploited and can
supplement the existing capacity. On my return, the rebirth of our country will be dawned
