Introduction
Richard Mervyn Hare (1919-2002), an English moral philosopher evaluate the
concept of ethics critically and developed his work on freedom and morals. In his theory of
universalizability and prescriptivity. Hare based his definition of ethics based on the
consequentialist perspective. In his argument, morals are the values that define the human
divinity. Human divinity is the reason for ethics and rationality. While humanity is universal
for mankind, there is relativism in morals due to human experiences and thus the challenges
of living the world in the freedom of practice. In the textual philosophy of “freedom and
morals” ethics is illuminated on as the power of rationality, and the natural rule of human
behavior. Business ethics is thus the application of human divinity and the natural rule of
humanity in the course of business execution. It is simply setting strategic goals, allocating
resources, executing the business strategic activities, evaluating the achievement or progress
of the activities and reporting the business performance in a moral, dignified and generally
acceptable standards. For the case of self-reflection, there needs to be important insight from
the Albert Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory on self-reaction, self-evaluation, self-
observation, and self-awareness. The goal of this paper is to reflect on business ethics and
personal behavior, I integrated this knowledge to critique my perception and infer correctly
on business ethics. The paper uses an integrated model of deliberative, Critical and the
Personality approaches in making the reflection on business ethics to infer from the academic
critiques and past critics and relate them to my personal achievement.
Ethical Principles
SELF-ASSESSMENT 3
Weiss, (2014) presents the perception that business are not only corporate entities but
also social units that are informally mandated with social responsibility and ethical
responsibilities. By virtue of existing in a particular social setting, a business ought to assume
the position of divine humanity to operate on rightful, fact-based decision, and be involved in
morally upright activities. Prior to this study, I had the understanding that: Ethics aims at
regulating and checking the course of a business operation to audit the route and ensure that
the route determines the end result on the contrast of using the end result to justify the course
(Weiss, 2014). I also knew that basic ethical principles include the integrity of sourcing,
business activities and reporting, the beneficence, no maleficence, justice, the autonomy and
informed consent, the principle of competence, professionalism, social responsibility and
respect for others. However, I have incurred that the list of business ethics principles is
endless as it depends on the ethical situation at hand.
However, Weiss, (2014) holds that the integrity of data, reporting and the course of
activities is the most critical ethical principle. More to this principle the several ethical issues
that the trending business environment is faced with includes funds embezzlements, tendering
misappropriation, product and price fluctuation, tax duty evasion, overvaluation or
undervaluation, unreliable or manipulated reporting and poor human resource management
practices. I obtain a learning from the text Business Ethics: A Stakeholder and Issues
Management Approach, that crimes against copyrights are not the commonly known type of
piracy. Several are the times that I have used the internet illegally without the knowledge.
Although ignorance is a no-defense, am an insight into the implication of uploading and
downloading an item from the internet.
SELF-ASSESSMENT 4
From my academic reference, it is clear that even plagiarism is the use of someone
else academic work without his consent and taking the credit for the work. However, from
Weiss, (2014), I incur that even downloading the academic work for consent without the
proper protocol or consent of the owner is part of plagiarism. In the same course, I have
obtained the meaning of business ethics as the tools used to protect the society and the
consumers at large from economic exploitation by a business person. The rationale for the
use of business ethics is to enhance iconic business, protect indigenous resources against
exploitation, and protect business minors from monopolistic powers, and the protection of all
the stakeholders of a firm against exploitation by the firm management.
Organizational Issues
I have often failed to understand the nature of the particular secular advertisement.
Hartman, DesJardins, & MacDonald, (2014) have changed my understanding of the ethical
standards of advertisement and the protocol followed in the filling of occupations. In
relevance to Weiss, (2014), I also obtain a new understanding of the trending organizational
issue. The most critical ethical issue in firm’s management is the cybercrime and data
management due to the internet evolution. Another ethical issue is the exploitation of labor
and human resource management ethics. I have not experienced a case of exploitation in my
a few attachment positions but am now psychologically prepared for the future to face such a
case with rational, and ethical judgment. In some cases, firms are faced with ethical
dilemmas where a decision from both available choices has a negating result. My capabilities
to solve ethical dilemma situation is now enlightened to take the side with the minimal effects
on humanity when challenged with an ethical dilemma in future (Hartman, DesJardins, &
MacDonald, 2014).
SELF-ASSESSMENT 5
Personal and Organizational Learning
From the issues above and as outlined in the Weiss, (2014), I have on my past
mistaken perception. I thought that the legalities of its economic jurisdiction come before
ethics since ethics is an open freedom concept. In fact, ethics and social responsibility should
come before legalities. Any intended business activity has to be accepted by the society fist
before the authority (Hartman, DesJardins, & MacDonald, 2014). This is not a formal
requirement but it implicates the success or failure of the firm. Ethics demands on a business
to respect the presences of others and fulfill the needs of the society while creating a fair and
justifiable course of giving back to the society. All stakeholders of a firm should be treated
with respect and integrity. As a customer, a young investor and employee of a particular firm,
I am now enlightened about my right to complete information consent and quality. Ethics
protect me for the price, quantity, quality, health, and accessibility on fair criteria and at a fair
cost, price discrimination, market poor unethical segmentation and structured economic
favors are issues that I have also learned (Hartman, DesJardins, & MacDonald, 2014).
The most insightful and interesting part of this course has been the areas of ethical
dilemma, cybercrime, and copyright ethics. In particular copyright, ethics has made me
knowledgeable on the acceptable use of the internet. More to the use of the internet, the topic
has created the curiosity of media in me and inspired me to research much on the use of
Media in general. The inquiries that I aim at pursuing in future is the legality of the
professional disc jockeys (DJs) and the ethics behind the course. I don’t stand to criticize the
career, but rather to incur about the limit of their professional career. I also have ambitions to
learn ethics in medical sciences and research. I also have engaged my mind through the topic
of social responsibility. My curiosity from the lessons of ethics and legality extends to the
relationship between social responsibility and ethics. I understand the slight difference

between ethics and social responsibility in that ethics is the moral philosophy that makes
people rational and divine thus influencing people and businesses to be socially responsible.
