Should high school students go steady?
Going steady is when two people are involved in a significantly prolonged romantic
relationship often assumed that they refrain from seeing other people. High school students are
teenagers whose brains are not fully developed and are unable to judge what is best at the time.
This is the wrong age to engage in love. Going steady among high school student may make
them feel understood and secure, but there are many disadvantages related as discovered recently
during a poll that was conducted across many schools. High school dating leads to poor grades;
their emotions are most hurt and such relationships barely lead to marriage.
A school environment is not the best for a romantic relationship. It is suitable for
education and other essential things in such a fruitful age which is a career and further studies
(Alexander, Karl, Robert and Doris 380). Going steady takes students mind off books, and they
start thinking about small things about their relationship. This reflects negatively on their
academics, and they score poor grades.
According to Alexander, Karl, Robert, and Doris, breakups among high school students
are foreseeable like seasons (384). Teenagers can engage in love, but they cannot love faithfully.
Breakups make teenagers develop mild withdrawal from parents and family. They lock

themselves in their rooms and rare cases they may suffer from depression. The outcome of a
break up could also be severe, several cases of suicide attempts have occasionally been reported.
Going steady among high scholars barely lead to marriage.in the earlier days, teenage
love mostly led to marriages because in the last generations girls were married in an average of
15 years.in the current generation marriage happens at approximately 25 years.
In conclusion, high school teenagers should only be friends but should not involve in
romantic relationships. This is due to the negative consequences which include poor
performances, hurt emotions and the fact that they rarely lead to marriage.
