Should high school students go steady? 
Going steady is when two people are involved in a significantly prolonged romantic 
relationship often assumed that they refrain from seeing other people. High school students are 
teenagers whose brains are not fully developed and are unable to judge what is best at the time. 
This is the wrong age to engage in love. Going steady among high school student may make 
them feel understood and secure, but there are many disadvantages related as discovered recently 
during a poll that was conducted across many schools. High school dating leads to poor grades; 
their emotions are most hurt and such relationships barely lead to marriage. 
A school environment is not the best for a romantic relationship. It is suitable for 
education and other essential things in such a fruitful age which is a career and further studies 
(Alexander, Karl, Robert and Doris 380). Going steady takes students mind off books, and they 
start thinking about small things about their relationship. This reflects negatively on their 
academics, and they score poor grades. 
According to Alexander, Karl, Robert, and Doris, breakups among high school students 
are foreseeable like seasons (384). Teenagers can engage in love, but they cannot love faithfully.
