Should Higher Education be Available to all?
Unlike the past when a college degree was not a necessity to land a decent job, in the
contemporary world, one may need more than one degree to get a job with a decent pay.
Unfortunately, even with the high demand for skilled labor, higher education remains expensive
and inaccessible to many. Consequently, the education system should change suitably to match
the versatile changes in the labor market. Therefore, higher education should be available to all.
Worth a note, most developed countries benefit greatly from a skilled labor market.
Consequently, availing higher education for everyone will increase the availability of skilled
labor, which any nation can utilize to enhance economic development. Notably, in this
contemporary world economic develop reflects on the extent of advanced technology usage,
which requires skilled labor.
Although the governments provide educational loans to students, the loans only worsen
the situation. Firstly, the funds are barely enough to cater for tuition and other needs.
Consequently, some students have to work part time to earn living and sometimes, some even
drop out of college. Additionally the loans remain a burden on the graduates as they spend a
better part of their working life paying debts. In addition, the loans creates a division among
citizens by categorizing them as poor or rich, which fails to consider middle class citizens. As a
result, some needy students fail to get educational aids and consequently lose their only chance
of acquiring skills through higher education. Availing higher education to everyone will not only
encourage students to enroll for higher education but also reduce the large economic class
division among citizens.
In conclusion, there are vast benefits of availing higher education to everyone for any
nation that desires and appraises economic development.
