Should Single People be Able to Adopt Children as Easily as Couples?
The modern liberal culture has clouded societal decisions regarding the nature and
essential components of a family. Today, being a single parent is not a matter of concern since
people tend to choose their own lifestyle regardless of the cultural or religious views (Adamec
and Laurie 69). People would rather stay single than live in a destructive marriage that is full of
misery. Single people lack certain traits that hamper their potential and capability to adopt a
child.
Paternal and Maternal Influence
First and foremost, children need the support of a father and mother to espouse the values of a
family. Despite the modern social transformations, the presence of a mother and father plays a
significant role in molding a child’s perception of family and the world in general (Adamec and
Laurie 69). It takes both a man and woman to create a child, and they all are different in various
ways. As a result, a child will have much to learn from both parents compared to a single parent.
I would, therefore, firmly state that single parents should not be allowed to adopt children.
Responsibility
On the other hand, both the father and mother have respective roles and responsibilities to play
as a family. In most case, single parents are fully occupied with their routine chores that they
unconsciously forget to take care of their children (Bunge 83). I believe that a child is a big
responsibility for one parent to handle; therefore, it is important to have both parents to ensure

full support. Furthermore, two parents will increase the household income thus securing better
opportunities for the child in days to come.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I believe raising children is a joint responsibility of both a father and mother. To
this end, it would be inappropriate for single parents to adopt children since they lack the
necessary traits. Therefore, the society ought to take the issue of parenting with the utmost
gravity to ensure that children have a clear understanding of the key underpinnings of a family.
