Concept: Observational Learning
Social Identity: Kindhearted and determined. Observational learning is defined as the learning
process based on behavior observation, or a performance and later on the application of the skill
when there is an inducement to display it. This learning is based on retention of the memory,
attention, motivation, and production from the observer. Shawn, in his life plan, suggests that he
loves interacting with patients and helping them, but this came from the motivation he got from
her mother who is a nurse. He indicates that his goal after the completion of his two-year degree
is to work as a registered nurse or a better position in the medical field. However, he also insists
that the mother had an influence on him who is a nurse and she loves her job, and she also enjoys
doing it. Having observed this from the mother, Shawn wishes to one-day help patients and
enjoy that job as his mother does.
Concept: Self-esteem
Social Identity: Introvert. Self-esteem is the aptitude to embrace and accept one's worth without
any emotional discrepancy. Shawn indicates that he has not had a social life lately since he is
becoming shy and quiet and cannot also attend parties. He is living the life of an introvert, and

thus he is expected to have low self-esteem. Also, he also fails to provide enough personal
information, interests and abilities in his personal ad, for instance, his political view and he ends
up saying "I will tell you later." Meanwhile, he feels like a lady may reject him based on his view
or desires and that is why he fails to air them out. Probably, he will listen to the lady's side of
view and adjust his to suit that of the lady due to his low self-esteem. In addition, he feels like he
needs someone to remove him from his “shell” which is a clear indication that he is not
comfortable with his social life. Shawn, therefore, has a low self-esteem that he needs to work
on.
Concept: Self-comparison
Upward and downward comparisons are instances where and individuals determine own
personal as well as social value through correlation with that of other people. Shawn also feels
that he is good looking but does not believe it, and he has to compare himself with his school and
workmates. He thinks that he is in the top third "looks scale" after comparing himself to the other
guys. Besides, he feels like he missed some life events that generally, other guys of his age have
passed through or are in currently and that is why he is looking for a lady that will show him all
he has missed out.
Concept: Generalized other
Social Identity: Self-judgmental. It explains an all-encompassing perception on something an
individual may have that is different from that of another group in the same society representing
a shared societal. Shawn feels like he should not be a party person or sleep around a lot nor only
because he is not of that type, but also because of his status. While it is expected to have his age
