Social Work
Social work involves offering services to the community without necessarily having to be
paid. Various theories govern activities involved in social work. The paper outlines the various
theories that govern social work and the knowledge required to perform such services.
The first theory that governs social work is systems theory. The theory aims at describing
human behavior regarding complex systems. Systems theory aims at providing a conducive
environment or rather system that is the demands of individuals, their visions and anticipations,
their rewards and the attributes of individuals living in the environment. During the of spreading
Chinese culture, those involved in the event should be able to understand the needs, attributes
and expectations of the students for them to have an easy time propagating the culture. The
social workers should be in a position to point out what most of the students like in the culture
and use that to make them understand the culture better.
The second theory that governs social work is social learning theory. This theory states
that effective learning occurs through observation and imitation. The introduction of a new
behavior will only continue when it is reinforced through pictures and other forms that can be
seen. In the event of spreading the Chinese culture, the social workers should apply observable
aspects like the Chinese painting they presented to the students. Students learn better when they
are in a position to have a practical presentation of the concept learned in class or in theory to
help them appreciate the theoretical knowledge (Payne, 2015, p.327).
The third is the psychodynamic theory. This theory tends to explain an individual’s
personality concerning both conscious and unconscious forces. The theory entails recognizing
what one views as good and bad based on their instincts and that we should realize that instincts
