Student success strategies
The BREATHE system is a strategy that is commonly used by college students in order
to achieve success in their studies. The success of students in their academics is possible through
attentiveness. However, there are many hindrances o this success such as anger and uneasiness.
In order to deal with low-self esteem, anxiety and any other feelings of being overwhelmed,
students are advised to use the BREATHE system to invite calmness in themselves. The system
suggests that the Big 3 aspects must be conducted routinely. First, one is required to straighten
his or her posture in order to allow all the body parts to operate efficiently. In this case, it is
suggested that the students should straighten his posture, the neck and flex the shoulder muscles
and lastly breathe in an out then relax.
The other strategy is the application of a school counselor-led Student Success Skill
(SSS) intervention to help in the sharpening the attention and concentration of the students
(Webb & Brigman, 2006). Constantly participating in the SSS program for students usually
results in improved classroom performance. In several occasions in which the SSS intervention
strategy has been used to motivate students in a bid to increase their concentration in the
classroom context, 7 out of 10 of the students have shown improved behavior as reported by
their instructors (Webb & Brigman, 2006).
Comparing the two-student success strategies indicates that the strategies were
formulated based on the improved social and academic outcomes parameters. The students that
apply both strategies not only perform well in their academics but also in their interactions with
others since their emotional support are elevated. Therefore, if given a chance to use either of the
two student success strategies, I will opt for the counselor-based SSS intervention. It is a
thorough program elates the spirits of the participants and motivates them to pursue success.
