Minimum Wage and my take
Summary
Minimum wage and my take is the position of a reporter known as Will Perkins who
argues that if an individual is having a full-time job in America, then they should be paid a wage
that is adequate to be able to pay their basic needs regardless of where they work. He uses fast
food worker as an example to support his argument because many people believe that they are
supposed to be getting the minimum wages as compared to other jobs. They feel it’s not a real
job and it’s common among high school students who are still looking for opportunities to join
the job market. However, the writer tends to defer with them and believes that the same way they
feel it’s essential to visit the restaurant on a daily basis the workers too should be compensated
for their service to the point that can also be able to live comfortable lives.
Further, he talks about the arguments that have been brought up against an increase in
minimum wages. One of them being that an increase in minimum wage will automatically lead
to increase in the price of commodities and he feels if that happens then the people who are in
desperate need of the services should consider other options like preparing their meals. He states
his position on this issue has majorly been contributed by the household he grew up in and was
given chances to be successful hence; he believes everyone deserves the same. Throughout the
story Perkins tries to argue that everyone deserves to be compensated highly for their services

regardless of the industry they work for. Thus, this will promote a prosperous nation that works
together to ensure that everyone has a prosperous future (perkins, 2017).
Critique
To start with, I find the information presented by the author to be very relevant
especially to workers who are earning a minimum wage. He uses real-life examples to explain
and even gives his opinion why employees need to compensated an adequately. Secondly, the
writer's information seems not to be accurate because he does not support his article with facts.
He used his personal experience and opinions from friends to support his arguments. The author
talks about how the people he had spoken to feel that fast food workers should not earn more
than seven or eight dollars.
Throughout the story, Perkins tries to give us his different side of the argument from
what others think about minimum wages. The writer also presents his article in a simple and an
understanding English which gives the reader a quiet time to determine which side he is
supporting and his position. We can understand that the goal of the article was an advocate for
equality among all workers so that as a nation they can prosper together. However, I feel this
article was intended for millennial such college and high school students. I do not think the
employers and consumers would support the author's position.
