3. Interpersonal skills contribute both negatively and positively towards a person's
experience in a group. Personally, I believe that positivity is one of the skills that helped
me to have favorable experiences with the other members of the group. I was supportive
towards people who appeared to have difficulties. I used this skill to motivate group
members towards having the hope for success even when we were experiencing
unimaginable obstacles. However, being excessively tolerant of other people's behavior is
a trait that turned out to be a weakness to my interactions with the team. Most people felt
that I was either too submissive and I did not have principles that were required in
making strategic decisions. In most cases, I concurred or showed rare opposition to ideas
that appeared irrelevant towards the objective of our team.
I believe that effective listening skills are one of the approaches that can earn me
a promotion. Listening is ideal because it gives a person an opportunity to learn about
others. Leaders need to understand others in an organization. People who do not listen
will not get the opportunity to learn about others' needs. Leadership is a concept where a
person needs to know how to handle others respectfully, and this can only be enhanced
through listening skills.
After going through the learning outcomes of this course, the experience has
made me learn new ways of existing in a team. The first revelation from this course is
that teamwork provides an opportunity for people to learn from each other. When people
