The Chicago Race Riot

What really happened at the Chicago Race Riot started when an African American teenager was

drowned in Lake Michigan after violating the unofficial segregation of Chicago’s beaches and

was stoned by a group of white youth. The riot was sparked by the refusal of the police to arrest

the white man who was even identified by eyewitnesses as the one who committed the act. The

riot was between gangs of black and white Chicagoans, who were concentrated on the South

Side neighborhood surrounding the Stockyards.

I think that the violence escalated to the point it reached in Chicago because, first the police

refuses to take actions by arresting the white man who was stoned the black man. This was

racism and it was what started the violence. This could have prevented the violence from starting

at the first place. Second the whites want to maintain their supremacist over the blacks hence the

continuity of the violence. The violence could have been avoided if there were no segregation

rules that prevented the blacks from the whites
