Colleges in the world today are a great kick start in a person’s career. In our society
today, college enrollment is proof enough that one is serious and focused to become a successful
person in future. The courses one is supposed to take are usually designed by the institution and
include many general subjects which are compulsory for every student. This requirement,
however, comes with diverse reactions since some people support the inclusion of general
subjects while others are against it

. Therefore, this particular essay seeks to prove that removal
of general subject is advantageous to the students.
Arguments against general courses
In another perspective, students who join colleges with specific majors they want to
undertake should be allowed to choose courses which will help them realize their goals in an
efficient way and fast. For example, a student who wants to take medicine should take courses

Arguments for general courses
Many people support the inclusion of general courses in all programs offered in colleges.
First of all, some students enroll to colleges with no particular idea of what they want to major
in. General subjects are there to help and guide them on what they feel is the right major for them
to undertake
i
. In other instances, many students may enroll with a course they want to pursue but
end up changing their minds over and over again. Thus, students are equipped with many choices
to choose from and can narrow down to a particular career.
Therefore, general courses should not be made compulsory in colleges since money; time
and energy are factors that highly burden the students and their families. This will in turn
encourage high college enrolment in colleges.
