receiving the precious pearls after the death of Major Sholto. This discovery gives them a hint
that Major Sholto may have been aware of what killed Ms. Morstan’s father, Captain Morstan.
Ms. Morstan and her friends trace the home of Major Sholto’s youngest son, Thaddeaus
as they seek to unearth the mystery between major Sholto and Captain Morstan. It is here that
they discover that Major Sholto and Captain Morstan had discovered a treasure in India. Before
his death, Major Sholto had instructed his twin sons, Thaddeus and Bartholomew to give part of
the treasure to Ms. Morstan. The brothers however, could not share the treasure with Miss
Morstan because they did not know where it was. Their father had died before he could reveal it
to them. However, the sons managed to identify where the treasure was. As a result, Thaddeus
sought of looking for Ms. Morstan so that she could get her share of it.
When Ms. Morstan. Homes. Waston and Thaddeus arrive at Barthlomew’s house to
discuss sharing of the treasure. They find him already killed and beside him a note written ‘sign
of the four.’ They follow leads to discover who killed Barthlomew and evidence leads them to
Jonathan Small who was in possession of the treasure. He narrates to them how he had been
working as a guard in Agra. It is then he was confronted by men who asked him to help them kill
a wealthy man and get a treasure that was in his possession. Jonathan Small had agreed to help
them. They found a place to dispose the rich man’s body and store the treasure. The men had
kept their end of the bargain by giving him part of the treasure. The three men were later to be
arrested and imprisoned for life. Jonathan Smalls was taken to Andaman Islands where Captain
Morstan and Major Sholto worked. However, he managed to convince them to set him free in
exchange for the treasure.
Conflict, mystery and injustice are common in every society. The book “sign of the four”
