Different approaches attempt to explain the causes of abnormal behavior. One of the theories is the
medical perspective. The theory focuses on the physiological and biological factors that cause abnormal
behaviors which can be treated as a disease or mental illnesses. According to the theory, the abnormality
can be treated using drugs and other medical procedures. The other perspective is the psychodynamic
perspective which is an alternative to the medical perspective. The theory attributes the causes of abnormal
behavior to anxiety which can be produced by unresolved and unconscious conflicts. The theory attributes
that the abnormality can be treated using the tools of conflict resolution. The other theory is the cognitive
approach that attributes abnormal behavior to particular thoughts and behaviors based on false assumptions.
The theory provides therapy as a means to cure abnormal behavior. The other perspective is the behavioral
perspective which attributes abnormal behavior to some faults in the learning environment (Hooley, 2017).
In all the perspectives there are different causes that lead to the abnormal behavior. Necessary cause
is one of the cause. This is the condition that must exist for a disorder to exist. Sufficient cause also provides
a condition that will ensure that a disorder exists. Contributory cause is a condition that will contribute to
the disorder.
Using autism as the disorder leading to abnormal behavior and focusing on biopsychosocial
viewpoint, there are various factors that will lead to autism. The biological aspect is the genes of the parents
and other medical factors that may lead to autism in an individual. The sociocultural aspect is when the
person with autism is treated differently in the society.
