Unemployment in China
Currently in China, unemployment rate has been a contemporary issues and it has risen
up to heights of 9.4 per cent until the year 2008, (Zastrow, 2000). Majority of the countries have
noted a high unemployment rate among the youth groups. The constitution of the unemployed
youth groups in mainland China is the recently graduated college students and the young migrant
workers. The unemployment rate for the youth has posed a great deal of problems since it is very
complex to solve and with the urgency it requires, different sociologists have tried to come up
with definitions of what they think the social problem is about. They discovered that the reasons
for the high unemployment rates is the difficulty the state enterprise development is
experiencing, increasing population and the inadequate skills and education of the youth,
(Charon, 2001).
Difficulty in state enterprises’ development has led to the laying off of workers in China.
In pursuit of profitability new state-owned enterprises are unloading burden of redundant
workers to the society and in addition the industrial structures are evolving with a large
transformation of the market demand. Investment demand had the clients changing their orders
to demand for new facilities while the consumption demand most of the old goods were being
upgraded resulting in the loss of their shares in the market both of which resulted in loss of jobs.
Second, the fast growing population has continued to provide a surplus work force. Especially in
