VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE 2
Volunteer Experience
A library forms the foundation of research and ultimately knowledge necessary for a
myriad of disciplines in the academia. In most instances, students are only concerned in visiting
the library for study and research purposes. Nevertheless, my recent volunteering experience at
the PMU library was eye opening and positively influenced my attitude towards appreciating the
library and its operatives ultimately; the experience enhanced my skills in Information
Technology studies. My volunteering works involved assisting students to book their study room
in the library premises. Similarly, I helped students in book borrowing process that included
running the borrowed books through a machine and handing a printed receipt to the students that
stipulated the date and time of borrowing as well as the expected day of return. Working at the
library had many benefits to my IT studies. To start with, working at the library exposed me
countless people including staff and students all who imparted multiple perspectives towards
education, the emerging trends in Information technology among others based on their personal
experiences.
Working at the library also enlightened me on the many books that remain unexplored
and that bear a crucial bearing towards critical and creative thinking. Through the topic
mentioned above, I learned the importance of analyzing data as well as emerging questions in a
diverse approach and not only focus on a single method, i.e., through observing honesty,
rationality, reflection, self-awareness, and discipline. Due to the significant number of people
visiting the library, the work was at some point tedious, but the joy of assisting fellow students to
gain access to a targeted book was a good motivation. In so doing, I learned of the many methods
used to label materials for quick access in the library, and thus I am sure my next research
assignment will be successful. Working at the library also served as good way of building
