VOTING TRENDS
An opinion poll is simply the survey of individuals’ views on a particular upcoming poll in order
to identify the candidate or idea that is likely to win. It is normally conducted on a sample case to
represent the larger population. Opinion polls are conducted by pollsters.
The most important principle considered in developing a good opinion is the principle of
randomness. A sample case is chosen randomly to represent the whole demographic population
characteristic, for example in an opinion poll to identify who wins in an election between candidate
X and Y. We will collect a sample of about two thousand people from different regions, race, age
and, gender to represent a population of five hundred thousand people. We then collect individual
information to identify their favorite candidate in an upcoming election. The feedback from the
respondents is then used as an opinion to determine which candidate or idea is more famous and
acceptable to the population.
Sampling error simply means the acquisition of different result an apart from the real expected
result from the field. It comes out when the research is not scientifically done for example
interview of the wrong respondents like interviewing individuals not eligible to vote in an election.
It may also arise as a result of the collection of the wrong sample size too small to give the wider
view.

Push polls are simply the spread of misleading information to the respondents in order to make
them switch their minds towards a particular candidate. It is mainly carried out during campaigns
where respondents are called and asked to give a particular account of inaccurate information about
a particular candidate in order to obtain results in their favor.
A caucus system is where member registered to a political party gather together to elect their
preferred party candidate. It is normally done to elect delegates to the national conventions for
presidential election while primaries are simply where party members vote to choose candidates
who will run against each other in a general election.
Electoral colleges are a group of voters elected by individuals to represent their states in the
presidential elections. They are appointed to represent different political parties in each state in
which they represent. In the United States for one to be the president you need to get at least 270
electoral votes out of 538 electoral votes.
In the United States political structure only two parties are well established. The United States
citizens have a choice to choose between the best president out of the two parties and therefore
completion will narrowly be on the two parties making it more difficult for a third party to get in.
Conclusion
An opinion poll is a key factor in the determination of a favorite candidate in an election. Through
the collection of information from a sample of the population, we get to easily tell who will win in
an election. Though the system has its shortcomings, it proves to be the best in prediction.
The United States system of election is the most complex in the world as the election has to be
done in the first level and thereafter those elected are required to go into the presidential election.
