What College can mean to America
The paper acknowledges the works done by Micheal Harington in ending the problem of poverty
in the United States of America. It is the poor education that lands people low-pay careers and
dead-end jobs (Mike, Paragraph 1). However, the more people get educated, the more the senior
workers get displaced from their positions as the manufacturing sectors keep evolving on a daily
basis.
The article argues that the poor people are adversely being affected by the American
capitalist community at the moment. The nation seems to be paying close attention to
innovations instead of dealing with the problem of millions of people who are unemployed in the
country.
The hopes of the poor gaining more financial stability have been ruined by more attention
being paid on health programs instead of making sure that their needs are sufficiently provided
for in the society. Thus, education is the only weapon to fight poverty in the community.
The poor go to public schools resulting in them underperforming and even dropping out
of school with fewer skills, making them have a difficult time getting employed. This implies
they have poor earning to help them meet their basic needs in life. The source of the issue of
some Americans getting marginal studies is that the budget towards the educational sector has
been reduced significantly to a level that it cannot help all the kids in the nation achieve the
highest level of education in the country (Mike, Paragraph 7).
