What Makes One College Course More Enjoyable Than Another
A student’s academic performance is greatly influenced by how he/she enjoys his/her
classes. Obviously, the level of the teacher-to-student engagement in an enjoyable class is higher
than that of less exciting classes. As a result, students perform better in enjoyable courses than in
those that are not so enjoyable. Although most of the reasons why some college courses are
unenjoyable can be changed, some cannot be changed. Therefore, a student must cope with this
reality and understand that learning is not always fun.
To begin with, the character of the lecturer greatly determines if a class is enjoyable or
not. A good lecturer should be able to explain various points of the course in a manner that
arouses the students’ attention and increases their desire to learn. In addition, the professor
should explain the concepts in the course in a clear manner so that students can easily follow
through. Due to the differences on how each lecturer teaches, some courses are more enjoyable
than others.
Another factor that makes some courses to be more enjoyable than others is the class
environment. According to Bessette, students do not enjoy courses that are held in
aninappropriate environment. Due to ashortage of essential infrastructure, some schools are
forced to modify their learning environment, which makes certain courses unenjoyable. For
example, most students would prefercarrying out a chemistry practical in a chemistry lab and not
in an ordinary class.

Finally, some courses are more enjoyable than others due to their unique characteristics.
Courses that engage the student are usually more enjoyable than those where the student only
attends lectures. In such courses, students have the opportunity to engage in some field work and
interact with friends. To conclude, students should familiarize with the course they are planning
to study so that they may select those that match their character.
