WHICH WAY NOW? 2
Which Way Now?
Identifying an optimum route to use to achieve certain desired results helps to save time
and resources. In the past, I have found myself in a situation where I was unsure of the optimum
route to use. This happened when I was on a hike with some friends. We wanted to identify the
route that would be shortest and less strenuous for us to use. We also sort a route that would
enable us to enjoy the scenery of the place we were visiting. Despite the challenges involved in
identifying an optimum route needed to accomplish a certain task, it is possible to establish a
solution that gives maximum benefits.
In the case where my friends and I had difficulty identifying an optimum route during a
hike, we were not sure where we to visit first. The place where we had gone for the hike had
many beautiful sceneries in different locations. We wanted to ensure that we allowed a route that
enabled us to visit all these sites without being in the same place twice and also without missing
any one of them.
A method like that of “The pure form” of the travelling salesman problem (TSP) is what
helped us in our dilemma because it helped us maneuver our way. The end result was that we
visited all the sites we wanted to. One of our friends was able to run the problem on the computer
and help us establish the route that was best for us to use. (TSP) is useful in determining the
route that gives maximum benefits with minimum costs (Xu, 2014). It helps to move from the
starting point to the end without unnecessary repetition.
